How far is Sanford Airport from the port?

It's about 45 minutes.
A 1 way rental will be cheaper than a private transfer.

I would rent a car, allow for an hour drive, and bring some quarters for the toll booths.

Now it's more like dollar bills to pay the attendant.
I bring quarters so I can go through the Exact Change lanes, and toss coins into the basket.

It's much faster than getting into a long line of cars waiting to see an attendant to makes change.

YMMV

Warning, the rental car desk is really really slow. It pays to be prepared. DH always goes to the desk and we wait for the bags and the kids get some time to jump around a bit after a long flight.

Rent a car! It is a very easy drive on a never -busy (almost empty) highway. I hate to drive, but do not mind this one.

My in-laws live in Sanford, so we have driven that route to the port or Cocoa Beach often.

As Woody says, have quarters handy. Or, sometimes with a rental car you can get a "fast pass" so you can just zip through the toll places without stopping. Even when it costs a dollar or so extra, we like this option.

Which rental car desk? Are you referring to the airport?

The OP is renting at the port.

Woody

I think OP is renting at Sanford airport. Yes, lines at the airports can be long. Signing up for the "frequent renter" programs can speed things up; at MCO, using Fastbreak (Budget) saves a LONG line.

The "fastpass" thing on the rental car generally costs and extra $2.50 per day, but will speed you up and even save a little gas.

Yes, I was talking about the rental desk at the Sanford airport. I just assumed you would need to go both ways :) Last time we rented (august) I think it was Avis and it was really slow (the other time we did it also). I do not believe they charged us a daily fee this time to use the fast pass thing (sun pass?).

Hi, this is the OP and I am looking to get from the port to Sanford airport.

It's no problem....Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Enterprise, and Hertz are located near the port. All operate courtesy shuttles to get you to their outlet. Find out who is located at Sanford, and you're good to go!
