How far is HH from I-95?

Thought we'd spend the night there on our way down in December. The Westin accepts small dogs and it was same price as the Wingate Inn near Savannah and much nicer, but it is somewhat off the beaten path. How far IS it off the beaten path? It'll also give us a breif look at Hilton Head too.

The Westin is closer to 95 then the Disney resort by a couple of minutes. It's about 1/2 hour. We've done this often. Stayed at both the Westin and the Disney's HH resort on the way to WDW, I mean.

Depending upon the day of the week and the time of the day - the traffic coming in and out of HHI can be awful. They were working on the road the past two times I was there, but maybe in December it will be done and/or the traffic will be lighter in Dec.

Get off I-95 at exit 8 (Hardeeville)- HH (the island) is 17 miles away at that point. The HH resort is another 8 miles or so. Depending on time of day and time of year, it will take 30 -60 minutes for the trip as traffic will play a mjor role.

It took us 35 minutes today from the interstate at about 2:30pm. Traffic was mild, but will be better in coming months since they are adding a third lane to Rt. 278 for much of the trip.

The Westin is near Port Royal Plantation but not in it, somewhere around mile marker 6 and about a mile or less off the main road 278 (William Hilton Parkway). It's a great hotel and right next door to Marriott's Barony resort. IMO, it's not worth the detour just to spend the night.

I agree with this totally. Now, if you can book an extra night or two at the Westin so you can at least have a full day to spend on HHI, it would definitely be worthwhile.

I don't know...the Westin is the nicest hotel on HH. To me it would be worth it to have a nice relaxing night in a 4 star resort if you have a little time to spend there. Outdoor and indoor pool, right on the ocean. Would you leave VA early? It will take you about 9 hours to get there. Then plan on 5 hours to get to WDW the next day...you could leave at noon and get in for dinner time.

Supposedly, (barring hurricanes I guess) the road work is supposed to be finished by November.

Thanks all! The traffic does back up on I-95 just to get off that exit..or is it the exit for Myrtle Beach? We usually hit that in the summer. Hopefully, December it won't be an issue. I did find a Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton, SC (off 278) that accepts pets and is cheaper and has 2 queen beds as opposed to Westin's double beds, but it is still around 13 miles off I-95. These were the only 2 half decent places I could find around the Savannah/Hilton Head area that accept pets. I don't think my 3 yo could go further than Savannah and that's as far as we've pushed it before.

We really wouldn't have a lot of time to drive around. Does anyone know of decent, clean, hotels that accept pets around Savannah? Nothing I've found on expedia looks appealing. Normally my MIL keeps Chloe (our shih tzu), but she watched her for 2 weeks this past trip so we didn't want to ask again.

I find that most of the Best Westerns allow pets. We usually stay in Fayettsville NC with our dog - but we are coming from MA.

Oooo..Thanks for taking the time to give me that list! I am going to send it to my email for future reference! We decided that we'll be leaving our dog at home in a kennel. I'd prefer to take her with us, and found an Embassy Suites in Brunswick, GA that took pets and a few places in Fayetteville for the way back, but from a photo of the WDW kennels it looks like they don't have runs for the dogs, just a cage. I looked for kennels around there, but they are pricier than the ones here. So we are boarding her. We are though..going to stay at the Disney Hilton Head Resort on the way back anyway to check it out and maybe go there next summer (if we're lucky to get in at the 7 month window).
