How far in advance of your arrival date to mail packages?

Will be at our home for two weeks later this year. Don't want to lug all of our stuff in suitcases, so we will probably mail things to our resort ahead of time. We've never done this before, so looking for suggestions.

How far in advance have you mailed packages? How do you label it (do you put your arrival date on the label)?

....and....anyone have their stuff NOT make it?

It really depends on your location. The time estimation tools are very accurate on the shipping websites (USPS, FedEx, UPS). You can select a date in advance and it will tell you arrival date.

If you are staying at a Disney resort which has a convention center and you ship FedEx or UPS, your package will go to the convention center. They charge a package handling fee which is based on the size of the package. The fees are here:

If you use USPS (mail) to send to any Disney resort, your package will go to a centralized delivery center before it goes to your hotel, so you need to leave extra time for that. From the Disney website

If you intend to receive mail during your vacation, be sure the letter or package:
  • Includes the mailing address of your Disney Resort Hotel
  • Clearly features the word “Guest” on the front and the date of your arrival
Please note that a $6 per package handling fee will apply to all packages that are received through the Front Desk or are delivered to your Disney Resort hotel room.

I assume the handling fee applies if you use FedEx or UPS to a Disney resort which does not have a convention center attached.

Also make sure you price out the cost of shipping a box of your stuff. It may end up being more than you expect. If you have Amazon Prime, then using Amazon Prime Now (same day delivery, you choose the time slot) or Amazon Prime (like you use at home) might be cheaper if you are planning to buy things at home and ship them.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

If you will have a car, you can ship to a Fedex Office location and they will hold the package for up to 5 days. I'm sure that UPS has something similar.
