to get to the World. And how long did it take? I am really considering driving this time (about 20 hr). The most we've driven in a day is 12 hrs.

1300 miles in 24 hours-3 drivers- in college. 1000 miles in about 16 hours over 3 days was what my folks often did with us as kids. I hve yet to do this as a "mature" adult with 3 small kids....I would do it if we had lots of vacation time!

I'm planning my very first driving trip in March.....will be 1200 miles each way, driving straight through, with my teenage DD, her BF, and his DM. :scared: LOL, Since I'm the one that hates to be in the car for any given length of time, I'm already starting to wonder "what was I thinking?!?" :crazy2: Seriously, I'm looking forward to being there, just not all that excited about the drive. But it was a last minute kinda plan, and trying to keep cost down, so ya gotta do what ya gotta do! :cool1:

We are driving from KC to Orlando next Friday, its about 12,400 miles, we probably could drive straight through but never have, (we have driven round trip 4 times including this time) I will be honest the 1st time we drove, when we got married it was pretty aweful, but after that each time got better until we actually started enjoying it!

Before the roads got nuts, we used to drive. Its about 1150 miles and I used to drive it straight through, stopping only for bathroom and gas. We'ld arrive in Florida and stay on the ocean the first night either at Daytona or New Smyrna Beach. This gave the kids a shot at the ocean and me the rest of the day to unwind from the drive. We use Amtrak now but a few trips ago, waited too long to book a train and had to drive once more. Me and wife, took 2 days, stopped after 700 miles, neighter her or I wanted to drive in the dark. Next morning up before dawn and booked like crazy to get there. Originally, we planned on driving straight through and be at Disney at 8am to have a whole bunch of fun but now we're too old for that marathon driving crap. Book our train way ahead now, no more mistakes, we know the time of training but we're there by 11am, refreshed and happy not being lost or on each others nerves. Have flown, by it ain't my cup of tea, way too stressful for me.

DFW-Lake City, Florida one day. 971 miles in 14 hours. This was with a 5 year old back in 2004.

Just this past thanksgiving we drover DFW-Chicago 965 miles in 16 hours.
We had a 3month old in the car with us as well.

EAsy to drive as long as you switch out.

We drove ONCE from Northwestern Illinois to WDW...about 21-22 hours. Yuck! we'd never do that again. Takes 4 days off your WDW time because you're so car-lagged on day 2 that you really just need to crash for awhile. I did plan an extra 2 days at Vero Beach which was wonderful. But the ride home is horrible because there's nothing to look forward to. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

It's 21 hours for us to drive to WDW. We split it into a 13 and an 8 hour day. We usually stay offsite that night and tour DTD to get in the Disney mood. I can't see us ever driving straight through but I could see us getting farther on the first as the kids get older.

We leave between 3 and 4:00am. We put in the bulk of the driving day one and leave between 3 and 5 hours for next day depending on traffic and stops needed. We only do quick stops on the way down - bathroom, coffee, burgers. We try to stop by 7:00pm, get settled in the room, have a nice sit down meal and then relax and go to bed. I usually pick a hotel with an indoor pool (this way weather is no factor) so we can take a quick dip if we decide to.
I bring pillows and a light blanket, shades for the side of the car with the bright sun and some cold drinks and snacks to tide over the troops between stops.

We drove from upper Wisconsin in 2003. Acording to trip planner it was suppose to take 24 hours. It took us 32 with road construction and traffic jams. Was stuck in one spot for two hour because of an accident. We saw a couple of accidents with flipped over cars. It scared me enough to fly in 2004.

you know in my younger days driving was fun! Then the first time I got my DH to go we drove with an 18 month old and a 7 year old, and we drove straight through!! :scared1: It was miserable we witnessed lots of crazy drivers and a few flipped cars. We witnessed a car tumbling end over end with suitcases and clothes flying all over the highway if we had been a few seconds slower it would have hit us! I pray the people in that car were all right. :worried: Last November we drove again but left around 3 am and stayed in Georgia off of exit 4. On the way home we made really good time and decided to drive straight through. This time our '06 trip we will be flying our first time ever! :worried:but, the thought of driving again gives me chills!!

WOW! What country is KC in? Even driving at 100 MPH straight through would take OVER 120 HOURS! :rotfl2: I'd never enjoy that drive! :rotfl:
