How far ahead should we book?

We're looking at going to DL the first or second week in February (probably mid week to mid week) staying 6 nights with 6 day park hopper tickets. We want to stay on site, at either DLH or PP (or GC if there is an amazing deal). We're traveling with my in-laws and 3 children (1, 3, and 6) so we'll need two rooms or a suite (if cheaper, but probably not). How far out do you think we need to book? We're hoping to wait until the entertainment schedule (or at least ride closure info) is posted. And we want to wait until any new deals pop up since the current ones don't go out that far.

Thanks!

I am wondering this as well. My wife and I are looking at the second week in Feb also at the GCH, but the deals are really not that great. Hopefully someone in the know will chime in ;)

I'm heading down the beginning of Oct for my solo trip to the mouse. During that time I intend to book HOJO's (also staying there for my Oct trip) for our Feb trip to the mouse. If you are travelling during peak times then around 4 1/2 months is perfect to get the hotel rooms that you want. If you are travelling during what is considered to be DL low season, then around 3 to 3 1/2 months will get you the rooms that you want. I'm book my hotel around 3 1/2 months for my Feb trip, but for my Oct trip I had to book airfare, and hotel 5 months in advance to guarantee my hotel room at HOJO's (they were sold out for my Oct trip 5 weeks after I book it, so it's a good idea to plan ahead, especially if you are staying at one of the more popular hotels in DL). Hope that this helps you out with your vacation planning.

When reservations are fully refundable I book as far in advance as possible. In fact I often make more than one reservation because I do not know exactly our trip dates so far in advance. Then I cancel the ones I do not need as we get closer and decide. :)

I do the same as Hydroguy, make a spread sheet of where they are so I do not get caught up in the cancellation fee process or just plain forget.

I am already looking for deals to book for next July! I think the sooner you get the reservations the better deal you will get. It's supply and demand. Also if you book now and find that it is cheaper as time comes along you usually can call and have them adjust the rate. Most places you don't have to pay until you arrive and they allow you up to 48 hours before the arrival date to cancel.

Yeah, but "deals" I'm wondering if there will be a free night or free day of tickets like they have had in the past with teh buy 3 get 2 free, etc.

To update, I called WDTC and booked the DLH for 14 nights (we're not going that long, but that encompasses the dates we're considering and we can cancel the ones we don't need). So glad there is no penalty up to 5 days in advance. The agent I talked to was really nice, said if new discounts pop up we can call and have them applied (but we have to rquest them they aren't automatically applied). We can also convert to a package at any point too. Also, they put in my request for the dreams tower. :) So nice to know we have lodging where we want it!
