How exciting is the "Rope Drop" at the Magic Kingdom?

We always go to MK for the rope drop....it's a great way to start your day...and you can ride so much during the first hour. One time we were at Epcot waiting at the rope and a CM asked us (DH,DD4 and me) if we wanted to be "Family of the Day" and help open the park. We were so excited to be part of it. After the rope drop they escorted us to Test Track and we were the first people to ride it that day and they let us stay on a second time without getting off. We got a few other perks too like ice cream, fast passes and preferred seating for Illuminations. We always get to the parks early for many reasons...one of them being...you never know if you'll get picked to help open the park!!! pixiedust:

On our first trip we went for the rope drop. The opening show brought tears to my eyes (picture a big man in his late 30's with a 5-year old on his shoulders tearing up). I looked over at my DW... and she was in the same boat.

The the rope was dropped and off we went to Splash Mountain, BTMRR and Pirates of the Caribbean... all within the first 90-minutes!!!!

I have heard - stress, HEARD - that they no longer do the "real" rope drop, where they used to just drop it and off went the stampede to the Mountains. Now they apparently "walk" the rope back at a brisk pace. So for those wanting to take part in one of the oldest Disney traditions, you may want to check and see how broken in your running shoes really have to be now. :lmao:
well when i was there, maybe a year ago there was a full rope drop. not with a "walking rope line" that takes all the fun out of it.
