We are thinking of joining DVC, but may not always be able to take a yearly vacation and are wondering how easy it is to rent your points. Has anyone been "stuck" with their points or had their points expire?

Hi!
I just had a great transaction with another DVC member. We needed some extra funds to cover dues this year and some other unforeseen expenses, so I discovered the boards and the whole renting/transferring thing (I hadn't even known about it for the two years that we've been members!). Within a week I had an experienced DVC member to whom I transferred the points. He helped me through each step and it was very painless. If you want more details about exactly how it worked, feel free e-mail me. It's nice to have the option of renting or transferring points, especially since we're just planning to visit WDW every other year.

This will probably be moved to another board.

If you don't think you will be able to use all your points, you might want to look at the number of points you actually start out with. Reduce that to what you really need, plus use banking and borrowing to get the number you need for your reservation.

There seems to be a real glut of points on the board right now, and members aren't really getting what they are worth. Plus, it makes it a buyer's market. If you can live with that, you might as well attempt to make reservations for non-members or other DVC members. It's seems rather time consuming to me and I don't plan to ever do it.

If you have family members or friends who might use your points, that would be the easiest way to handle it. It really takes a lot of work and trust to make arrangements for a total stranger.

If your allotted - just say 210 pts a year and you do not plan to go one year -
Your first and I think smartest option would be to bank them with members services. Those pts will go into your account to be used by the next year- which gives you an extra year to use them. (BY the time your new use-year comes you will have double the points) When you go to make your plans that following year - Use the Banked pts first. Then if there ever comes a time when you want bigger accomodations or a longer stay - the points are there.Otherwise you can resort to renting them if you determine that you won't be needing them Hope this helps, I myself have never had any left over until this year and we've been members since 94- we changed our accomodations of the resort at the last minute and the difference went into holding (The resort requirred cheaper pts - which left us with a few left over) I bought my points to use each and everyone of them and treat other family members every other year in the bigger accomodations! WEll, Good Luck :goodvibes
