how easy/difficult to get table for 3?

DH, DS10 and I are planning on having our dinners together but would like to dine alone. Will they put this 4th person at our table? or can we now talk among ourselves?

Most likely you'll actually be with a family of 5 or two smaller groups. However, I would note it in your reservation (yes, they do have files and they do make notes - though some cm's may say differently - just get a different cm) if you want your own table. Also, the day you board the ship you can find out if you're at your own table and request a change if you need to. The location and time to do this will be listed in your Navigator which will be given to you at check-in.

how do you know when you checkin and get your dining rotation how many will be at your table?

Your KTTW will have your table # on it. From that the dining manager will know what type of set up it is for (the # of people). The first time we cruised the lady that checked us in knew that our table assignment was for one of the larger tables. However, this last time the elderly man that checked us in had no idea (or at least that's what he told us). The only way to know for sure and to get it corrected, if needed, is to go to the designated place (usually in Sessions around 2:30ish) and find out then. If you wait until dinner, you will be limited by what is "left". We had to switch ours on our 1st cruise because we travelled with another family, yet they placed us at separate tables. We had it corrected immediately, but were told by the manager the later you wait to make a change, the more difficult it is to do. This last time our family of 5 shared a table with a family of 3 - this was a common setup at other tables as well. Families of 4 or 6 were most likely to have their own table.

Reconsider wanting to eat alone - don't you do this all the time? We have had very good luck meeting nice people. First cruise was two mothers and their daughters. We enjoyed talking to them, but no great friendship. Last cruise, another family with kids our kids ages. We found out that families have a lot in common (kids play same or similar sports, families follow same major league teams, both professionals, had signed up for some of same excursions, etc.). We exchanged addresses and the family will probably visit us on a college trip. It was nice to see someone we knew around the ship, too.

I vote for trying to get a table for the three of you. On our first Disney cruise in 1998, it was just me, DH & DD and we were put at a table with another threesome (husband, wife and daughter). They were very obnoxious and kept boasting about all the cruises they've been on other than Disney and seemed to be downplaying Disney, which we really didn't appreciate.

Last November, we went on the Eastern and took a friend for our teenaged DD and dinner was precious to us and we treasured the great times we had there to discuss the day (they pretty much did their own thing with the teen club) and plan for the next day. We had a table by ourselves -- it was wonderful! Because we are pretty much busy during our school and work lives when not on vacation, dinner time becomes for us a time to reflect and share our day with each other. Plenty of time to socialize with the rest of your shipmates elsewhere!

We had no problem at all getting a table for 3...I would have been very unhappy if I had to share a table the whole cruise with others. I called in advance to request a table for 3 and then as soon as I got onboard I went to the restaurant and made sure that they did put me at a table for three and they had.

Actually no we dont eat together all the time at home. We are lucky to sit down for a few meals together each week. Our lives are so hectic with our fulltime work schedules, school & soccer sched, etc

I also thought at the beginning of the cruise that I would HATE having to sit at a big table with other people for dinner every night, but it turned out to be one of the best times of the the trip. It is nice to meet new people who also love Disney and talk about the day's fun. It was nice knowing other people on the ship and hanging out with them later.
