How early?

We will be coming in at midnight and likely not at the resort until 1am. The CM that I spoke with said that if a room was ready, we could check in early (that would be VERY early). Has anyone actually done this? It just seems like we should reserve a room for the day before, although we would love to save the $$ (so, if we technically are on grounds on the 1st at 1am, we should get a room for the 31st so that we are guaranteed a place to stay).
Thoughts?

I would book a room for the 31st, you may get a room early but that's like 11am (and if you are very lucky at that), not 1am. It will not be fun to sit in the lobby all night long after traveling.

You could always get a room at the airport hotel if that's much cheaper just for that night and get the Magical Express first thing in the morning.

I thought you could not check-in until the computers turned over around 6:00am.

If you are using DME, I'm not sure they would take you because it's technically the day before your reservation.

You are correct that you should book a room for that night. If your reservation currently starts on the 1st, you would need to book the 31st if you want a room upon arrival at 1 am. Even though 1 am is technically the next day, it's still the current day (in your case, still the 31st) as far as reservations/check in. If you don't book the 31st and arrive at the resort at 1am, you will have to wait until 6am to check in, which is when the computers roll over for the next day.

All of you make perfect sense. I didn't think they would check us in that early(even though it is DVC)...otherwise you'd see people in the lobby all the time waiting for the clock to strike 12! Thanks!!

Definitely book the room for the day before, and then let them know you'll be arriving in the late night/early morning.

We were out of points for a stay, and booked at POR. Our flight landed after midnight and we didn't get to our room until 2am. but it was there, waiting for us, and perfect, because we had booked that other day.

They cannot do the checkin process (if we hadn't booked that extra night) until after their computers switch over. That's a long time to wait after a flight.

While it seems crazy from this side of the booking...all we're doing is sleeping, it's such a waste, etc etc... But then you wake up at the time YOU choose in YOUR room, and you don't have to move or pack or anything, and you're definitely not going to be "homeless" from checkout time to checkin time, and you realize that it's actually much more than those sleeping hours you've gained and paid for. :)

You will need to book a room for the night before. I flew in late after the kids got out of school and arrived about 1:30am at the WL. Our TA booked us a room for that night because we'd be sleeping in the lobby if he didn't. Lol. We were going to get a room at the Hyatt in the airport and take ME in the morning, but it was during free dining and we looked at it that we got extra credits.

I believe DebbieB is correct about DME too. They would not transport you to WDW because you do not have a reservation that day

Just tossing this out there, we have found that a room at an All Stars is often cheaper than a room at the Hyatt at the airport. If you don't mind staying up a bit longer you can go on and travel on DME to Disney, stay at an All Star and then move over early the next morning to your DVC resort.

BWV wouldn't check me in until 7am. I was actually staying there already but changing room types - studio to one bedroom. I wanted to do checkin, store luggage and get lost until the PM. I never do the advance checkin but if I ever have that situation again, I'll use it.

I've also booked the previous night and checked in at dawn. Plus I've paid for the last day and left very late the night before. I think it's worth it sometimes. Other times, sleep in a one night room.....

This is us also, we always arrive after midnight and we would rather get into our room and get mostly settled in and then wake up at our resort and start the day. But, we also don't pay the big deluxe prices either.
