How early to make a reservation?

I'm a newbie at Universal hotel reservations. How far in advance do you need to make reservations for a mid-October trip? Thanks for your help.

I just booked my first trip ever to Universal so I don't really know much about the resorts. I do know that if you book now and then a cheaper rate comes out in the future that you can call and have the cheaper rate applied to your existing reservation. So I would say that as soon as you know the dates you are going, go ahead and book your room - that's what I'd do.
