How early do we need to book FW?

We plan to go in June 2011. We'll need a site for a 31' Class C. As I've been reading posts on this board I'm starting to think about how early we need to decide on specific dates.

The only problem is that this is the first time we will be traveling long distance in our MH so we will need to plan the drive from Minnesota - how long will it really take? Where will we make our stops? How long can we REALLY make it without stopping?

I cant help you with the "how long to get there questions"

but I would advise the sooner the better. It seems these days that the Fort is so popular that if you know dates just reserve them. We tend to book on the generous side with our dates as you can always take dates away but you cannot always add so easily.

We wish we could go in December! That would be heaven! We're both teachers, though, and we have school age children so our options are pretty much limited to June, July and August.

I agree the sooner you can pick dates and book the better june thru aug is a busy time of the year as lots of people have the same problem that is when the kids can go so book early and book the max amount of days you would consider going deleting days is by far easier then adding

I would also suggest you book as early as possible i believe 180 days out any food ressies you may want also they tend to go fast at all times of the year unless you have a vechicle to drive off site you may have to eat very early or very late if you can even get ressies the day you are there we have had this happen during the winter between oct to jan times when it use to be slower now we know there is no real slower times just some when its not really packed to the gills so plan ahead and book your sitdown meals or plan on going off site which has many options also from fast food (mc donalds )to some nicer sitdown places depending on what you want to do many not far from Fort

WOW! I don't think I have ever planned anything that far in advance! I am really much more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of gal.

Looks like I need to have the family get together and make some decisions about our trip!

We already have our June 2011 ressies for the Fort. We like to reserve well ahead of time to make sure we get what we want and when we want. Of course it doesn't hurt to have something to look forward to either. We have always gotten exactly what we requested in the past. Hope that doesn't change!

The Fort fills up VERY fast, particularly at certain times of the year. Any time I know we're booking around Thanksgiving or Halloween, I'm sure to book it right at the 499 day mark.

You can still sometimes get ressies for busier times not-so-far in advance, but it's a heck of a lot harder and usually requires calling every day and piecing all your days together bit-by-bit.
