How does wage effect your choice in roles?

I was curious about what you guys thought about the difference in pay depending on the roles. I was in attractions at DL during my CP, and I know that I was paid a full $1.50 less an hour than my roommate in photopass. I loved my job, but it was definitely hard to deal with the fact she made A LOT more money than I did, especially with trying to pay personal bills (cell phone, student loans, etc.)

I was wondering how much the wage difference effects your choices, if at all. I would love to do attractions in WDW, but I know attempting for higher paying roles may be worth it in the long run.

Wages don't affect my choices at all, granted I have no real bills, but seriously it didn't make that much of a difference. I had QSFB so technically I was making more an hour but I ended up with a location that didn't have that many hours for full-timers much less CP's so I was always on the nearer side to broke and still had enough for everything I needed to do. It really just comes down to budgeting.

Wage never mattered to me. I only looked at roles that I knew I would be happy in. I could never do a role for 5-7 months that made me unhappy (even if it paid a lot).

I never cared that much about the wage. I picked the roles that I know I will be happy in and never even think about how much it pays. I would rather do a job that I like that doesn't pay much, then be in a job I am miserable in but that pays a lot. It's only like a ten dollar difference each week anyway. Disney tells you from the beginning that this internship doesn't pay much. It's more for the experience and resume building, which I agree. I got car payments and insurance to pay for, but all I'm going to do is just work more hours or pick up shifts. Also, remember, to factor in that living in California is a lot more expensive then living in Florida. In both of my programs, I did low paying roles and normally worked 40+ hours, and I still came home each week with around $140-$180. $200+ for more than 50 hours. That's around $560-$800 a month! Plenty for me to pay for my bills and still have some leftover. Just budget well, do a lot of bargain shopping, and don't spend all of your money on souvenirs or expensive restaurants.

Can't speak for DL, but at WDW Photopass is one of the highest (if not the highest) paid CP roles at WDW (it's non-union), whereas Attractions is the lowest. So your two comparisons are the extreme. Most everything else will be somewhere in the middle.

I really don't think it should be an issue. Go for the role you want, and the pay difference really is miniscule.

This will be my first CP, but you'll probably be happier doing something you enjoy rather than hating your job for 75 cents extra per hour.

At first I thought you were giving pretty low numbers for 7+ dollars an hour... then I realized you meant that you get that much AFTER the automatic housing deductions. :P That is completely enough money for me to live off of.. :) All I will have to pay is my phone bill, my medical bill, and my credit card bill. Awesome. Now I'm even more excited.

Wage isn't a deciding factor for me. As long as I have enough to get by for rent and food, I'm good.

Was there actually a way to find out the wages of all the different roles before applying? All I had heard was that Housekeeping was one of the higher paying jobs (not sure if that's true), along with Photopass. All I know for sure is that Florida minimum wage is $7.25/hour, so all the CP's make at least that much!
