How does vandalism and looting accomplish anything???

If it's publicized that looters will be shot on sight, and they choose to loot, it's not the death penalty so much as it's suicide.

Act like an animal, die like an animal.

Exactly, kind of like how they used to have public hangings for certain crimes, those crime rates went way down.

So, essentially, we're advocating the death penalty without the due process of a trial? Good to know that human life means so much.
Truthfully human life that acts that way really doesn't have much meaning to me.

I...don't even know how to respond to that. You can't just walk around shooting people. You can't do that. We have an entire country founded on the principal that you can't do that. I don't care if you wear a badge or not. You're advocating a complete break down of the entire civil and criminal court process. Hasn't this been page after page of saying that vigilante justice is BAD? So, it's awful and bad for a group of people to steal shoes but it's just and moral for them to be shot on site by an equally civilian group of people? And would it then be ok for THAT group of people to be stabbed because killing people is as illegal as shoe stealing?

The problem is that there are no consequences for the looters. I would support every single business owner shooting anyone that is looting their business. The police aren't doing anything to stop it, so the business owners have the right to defend their property, IMO.

Too bad that the governor has decided to give in to the looters. He's bringing in state troopers for a kinder, gentler touch.

I don't know. All the state troopers I have seen seem to be more stern and strict looking than county or city. Except NYPD.

Unless Missouri's troopers are more like CHiPs. As much as I loved that show, I did not find Ponch and Jon all that intimidating.

Well, your assumption that there aren't any consequences for any looters ever is completely false and stupid to begin with. 9 people were charged yesterday. This being a democracy with due process, they will have a trial. Secondly, where are you getting this idea that its an ongoing and systemic problem? There haven't been any reported cases of looting since Sunday night.

As for the rest of it, if one act of thievery can so reduce the worth of a human life that they can be shot in the street then it's no wonder that people feel the need to take to the streets.

The ones that aren't acting like humans don't deserve to have their lives valued.

Just like we can't shoot people we think are guilty, neither can we condemn someone as guilty until there is a trial where the facts are presented. We have 2 very different versions of what went on, Michael Brown surrendered and was shot, Michael Brown got into a fight with the police and was shot, he was shot by a Caucasian policeman, he was shot by an African American policeman,etc.. I believe the chief is supposed to release the policeman's name tomorrow, so at least that part will be known.

Whoever called in the state police were doing under the supervision of the FBI as a suggestion or otherwise. They are running the show. The justice dept. is sending in special prosecutors to assist the investigators.

Actually, for a big chunk of this country's history, that's precisely how such things were handled.

I'm not suggesting we necessarily roll back the clock, just pointing out some discrepancies with your take on the principles on which this nation was founded :)

Why all the bleeding hearts for the looters?
No one's heart is bleeding for the looters.
This is what's wrong with America today, people get away with everything. See someone looting, shoot them on the spot, and not with rubber bullets. See how quick the nonsense stops then.
Well, that's the way that things seemed to be heading before the Ferguson police were replaced. Only it wasn't the looters who were being targeted. It was innocent people and the media. Thank goodness MY America isn't the same as the America you wish it would be.

On the other hand you will also see posters saying how to deal with police and it's described in a submissive way... Hands up.. No questions.. Yes sir/ma'am... No sudden movements. That's also teaching children to fear the police. Teaching children to expect the police to abuse their power and act like little submissive robots is not much better.

Time & Place.

It's important to be compliant with directives, even if they aren't legal. Be respectful, don't raise your voice, and basically do everything in your power to show yourself to be ZERO threat.

And when the officer stops talking, and they always do eventually, you give him a concise rundown of everything that was done in violation of your rights & what legal channels you intend to employ as a result. If you're as cool & calm as the officer - or better still, coolER and calmER - the position of power shifts. All this assuming you have a legitimate beef of course. ;)

Latest - as of right now, the demonstrations today have been peaceful, the State Patrol has been directed to interact with the demonstrators rather than creating a "skirmish line", and no gas masks or other riot gear. The Troop C Captain lead a parade of protesters down the street - including one woman who looked like she jumped right out of her pool to join the march :lmao:.

State Patrol has essentially extended the olive branch. With any luck, no more mayhem tonight.

Sorta like they reporters did. You know, the ones that were thrown against a soda machine and arrested or the ones that explained they didn't need police assistance and were tear gassed.

It's really hard to take much of what you say seriously after you made many posts advocating for racial profiling.

Refusal to leave isn't the same as "complying with directives".

At NO point do I advocate for racial profiling (or profiling of any kind) and in fact have prefaced nearly all (if not all) comments on the topic by stating how unfair & unjust it is.

I don't AGREE with it, but I do UNDERSTAND it. Big difference, my friend ;)

Reports are that the demonstrators began throwing molotov cocktails, but the demonstrators swear that they were only throwing kisses.

They didn't refuse to leave.

You can spin it any way you want but your posts on racial profiling were quite clear.

All law enforcement should leave and just let them do whatever they want. If the town burns, it burns.

I thought that earlier when I was writing my comment about the LA riots but it goes against everything the police stand for.

Everyone hate the police until they need them.
