I am in need of some points being transferred to my account(I am short).
How does this work? What info do I give the person transferring there points?
I have rented before with no problem but never had someone transfer their points into my account.
Thanks

simple........one DVCer transfers points to your account.........you need to give the transferer the transferee DVC memeber number and name on the card.........then tellMS the number of points.......they will give you a confirmation number and then the person who transfered the point must inform DVC by mail or via our website dvcmember.com that they infact wanted this done..........almost immediately the transfered points are available to the transferee and can be used to bookie ressies.........hope that helps........oh yea one more thing........the transferer can not accept points via anothe rmember for that calendar yr.........so you can transfer points unlimited but you can not then accept transfered points to your account in that calender yr.........once the yr changes you can do what ever you want.

We have been told on this board that you don't need to provide the person doing the trasnfer your member number. That was always one of my hang ups about transfers but others here have said you can provide a name, address and phone number if my memory serves me corrcetly.

One other thing. If you have contracts at more than one resort, make sure the transfer is put under the resort that you want it to be put under. Otherwise they will put it under your master contract and the points may become the points for that resort.

Good luck.

you do need to know their UY though..........i always ask for the member number........but next time i will try it without one........i thought we needed it cause MS always asks me for it

I just did a transfer this morning in fact, here is how it went.

I called DVC and told them I wanted to transfer points to another member, they asked for the other member's name and member number, which I had. (I don't know if they would have taken name, address, and phone #, but I would assume they should since they could look up the other member that way too).
I told them the number of points to transfer, they warned me to make sure the receiving member knew the use year and home resort of the points, and that the points would be subject to the rules for my use year and home resort, and not the receiving member's.
They asked me to fax a signed request to confirm, and that it would take 1-2 days to process.

And that was it, simple as that.

By the way, I have about 30 points available to transfer, PM me if you are interested.

I agree and thought that too. We should hear from someone who didn't have to provide it at some point in this thread.

Bongo - I was told that it was UY not calendar year. Which is correct?

Thanks

Thanks Bongo - that is an important bit of information for me as I am planning a big family trip in July 2006 for which I will need 440 points transferred to my account :earseek: I've never done this before so it is a little intimidating. I just want to understand all of the logistics in case something changes after I transferred the points into my account. I'm not expecting anything to .... but you never know. I just want to make sure everyone in my party understands the parameters.

Any suggestions on when I should begin seeking out someone who has points available? It will be for a split 2 week stay at OKW (my home resort) and BCV in 2 2BR units in July 2006. I am planning on booking both weeks at OKW at the 11 month window (this August) and then changing the second week to BCV at the 7 month window. What would I need to consider as far as UY and Home Resort of the points I am receiving?

Thanks!

I was told something slightly different yesterday by MS. They (the infamous "they") said that the transferred points retained my home resort identity, but took on the use year identity of the members account I was transferring into.

So, who be knownin' the truth on the matter? Or does it change??

I just had this problem today.

I had transferred BWV points into my account, which has an OKW home resort.

Theoretically, the BWV points would retain they're home resort status, but right now the reservation system can't handle it. So they got sucked up into the OKW, and were treated as OKW.

MS straightened it out, but when you xfer, you should have them add a comment about the points having X home resort, to be used for X reservation dates, from contract ABC, xferring person's name, maybe phone number, and as much info you can as to document this transaction. So that later, MS doesn't say, no, you only have OKW points!!!

***

If I had a contract of BWV, then this would not be an issue, as long as I made sure that the BWV transferred points went into the BWV bucket. (Could be a problem for those of you who own multiple home resorts. Make sure your points go where you want them to. IE if had OKW, SSR, and BWV, make sure the BWV points go into BWV's bucket).

FYI - MS told me that they are to be trained on a new reservation system by April, so I'm hoping the new system will address this issue.

Hope this helps, Goldi
