I am curious why you rented a house rather than a walking distance hotel? I think walking distance is the key to happiness when you are staying multiple days at Disneyland. There are so many hotels with great prices in that time frame you are going, too. Have you thought of switching?

We rented a house because we have 11 people going and wanted to be together. I realize the benefits of staying walking distance or on-site, but we are really excited about the house.

Hopefully it will all work out. We will take our cue from the girls and see how they are doing. Everyone has offered such wonderful advice!

That is a really pretty house! I think you will do great. We are going ourselves for 5 days this summer--and we never think that is enough! Ha!

I just asked about the house rental because it is pretty unusual for Disneyland. I know people do it for Disney World--but not really DL.

The house we are renting has a stroller available to use or I was going to rent a stroller at disney. I hadn't really thought of a stroller for DD6. I wonder if she is too big for the Disney ones? She is 49" and 49 pounds. I really don't want to bring strollers with us from home.

Are you driving? If so no big deal bring the stroller, if you're flying again no big deal ~ you can gate check it and it's there waiting for you when you get off the plane. My DD's Disney stroller is a Mac Volo. Renting a stroller will be pricey...

We are flying. I think American Airlines charges $25 for each checked piece each way. I will have to see if that applies to a stroller (would mean $50 to bring ours which is also quite bulky. Where I live we have rough or dirt roads and so an umbrella stroller is not practical).

Stroller rental will definitely add up. I just emailed the house owner to see what type of stroller is at the house.

We flew American last year and they did not charge us for the stroller or the carseat. House looks great too!

Yep!

None of the airlines charge for a checked stroller and/or carseat. We fly Alaska (usually) and they have these VERY large heavy duty plastic bags. You just put your carseat/stroller in the bag, if it will fit, tie it up and mark it with contact info. And away you go!

This year will be the 1st time we are flying with my son's "supersized" jogging stroller. This sucker is huge! I'm pretty sure its not going to fit in the plastic bag and I'm concerned with gate check since I thought you had to fold up the strollers to do gate check. I mean...the flight attendants/crew will do it for you so either way, it needs to be folded. However, with my son's stroller, you have to actually pull it apart (we all KNOW jogging strollers don't fold easily!) and 2 metal rods come out of these tubes...it's a bit crazy and an involved process! So the last thing I want to do it wrestle with this stroller at the gate!

Does anyone have any experience in gate checking a larger stroller?? How'd it go??

And yes....we are taking the stroller. We are marathon Disney folks and DH refuses to carry DS in the parks and I refuse to listen to all the whining. I'll take the stroller hassle over the whining kid any day!

Sadly, DS is a little too big for his Maclaran...we were able to use it on his very 1st visit. That time, we just put it in the plastic bag and checked it...worked great! But a few months after we got home, I started to notice him dragging his feet (ie. his legs were too long) and he was complaining of not being comfy or able to recline enough to fall asleep. So we sold it to buy a new stroller.

We tested the Bob's, since I heard they were the biggest and they did have some great reviews. But I just couldn't justify spending $400+ on a stroller that he wouldn't get that much use out of. At that time, he was already pretty much maxed out on the Bob's height/weight limits.

A jogger wasn't a MUST, it just seemed that those are the ones that have the highest weight/height limits.

Before leaving for our trip this last May, we found this AMAZING jogging stroller on super-clearance at a sporting goods store. It is THE biggest stroller I've ever seen. DS can comfortably ride in it for several years to come, heck even my 105lb mother sat in it while we were at the county fair last summer!

When pushing DS in this stroller, it literally feels as if there is NOTHING in the stroller! NOTHING! When pushing him around in his previous Mac and Graco's...my arms were sore by the end of a long day. And poor DH couldn't help push, especially with the Mac, because it was too short and he spent the day hunched over.

Last year we drove...so I didn't have the issues of how exactly to get this stroller on the airplane and to Cali!

So to answer your question....this jogging stroller is just what we found that works for us, clearly at almost 6 yrs old, it will be our LAST stroller.

Oooh...good idea. Except I'm thinking that I don't want to pay to check this sucker! If I put parts of it in my luggage, that will add to the weight of the suitcase. Bummer!

And since we fly Alaska and they charge for EACH BAG, we are trying to bring only 1 checked suitcase with us. Not sure if I would have room for parts of the stroller...but excellent idea! I may have to give it a go!!

Not sure if I'll make it through TSA with metal rods/tubes (these go in the "connector" tubes and help secure the seat to the back) sticking out of my carry on bag!

If you see a poor mom on the 5 o'clock news, with "weapons"...it just may be me!
