How does the new ONLINE check in work..and Boardwalk recommendations?

Hi all..it has been about 3 years since we have been to WDW...going in July to celebrate our son's high school graduation/college departure

We will be staying at the Boardwalk..standard room view. Party of 4...Me, DH and 2 DS..ages 18 & 13.

1) How does the new online check in work? Does it save time..help get any room requests?
2) Any particular rooms we should try for? We have only stayed at Boardwalk through DVC....so maybe a slightly bigger room....good view.....bigger balcony??

On line check-in allows you to place a time of arrival and a credit card on your account, so your package will be ready when you arrive. Depending on the time of day and how busy it is, they may or may not be able to met your requests. You could reiterate your requests, and ask for a room that is available later in the day, and they would have to re-do your package.

IMHO, if you have requests and you hope to have them granted, doing online check-in defeats the purpose of picking up your package right away and whisking off to the parks.

we actually stayed here and did online check in. for us it didn't really help or speed things up. However when you are going is more of a busy time so it might be worth it.

Maybe one time out of ten, online check-in made things quicker for us. A couple of times we actually had to wait longer than if we just walked up to the counter and checked in.
