How does Rope Drop now work?

With FP+, I am wondering how it is with rope drop, if anyone has any experiences?

ie: We normally would rope drop DHS and go straight for TSM, then get a FP for riding it again later.

With so many with FP+ presumably from 9-10a, how does the rope drop work now? Is it already a 100min wait, for example, as I saw a different poster say about Rope Drop the 7 Dwarfs MIne Train

also, EPCOT: we would Rope drop and go straight to Soarin hoping to have no wait. Will this still work, or no?

I have read a thread about the Mine train, that basically everyone is going at Rope Drop straight to Ana and Elsa and/or the Mine Train, so perhaps a better strategy for us will be to Rope drop and go right to Tomorrowland for all the attractions there, and have FP+ for later in the day at the Fantasy land attractions...??

We were there from May 31 until June 7
We had TSMM FP, but still went right there are rope drop and rode within 10 minutes.
Then rode again with FP

We were there from 5/25-6/2. One day at rope drop we headed straight fot TSMM. We were at thr front of the line at the entrance to the park. I am a slow walker but we were amongst the first ones in and basically did a slow walk on, never really stopped. We thought hey since we got on so quick let's do it again. We went to get in line and the line started at the fountain well past TSMM. The wait time said 15 min but the CM said it was 60, it wasn't updating. The time was a few minutes after 9. If you are at the front of the "turnstyles" you shouldn't have much of a wait, if you are further you may have a longer wait.

These are my plans. Will they work? I'll see next week.
1) MK,at least the first MK day--straight to Fantasyland to ride Peter Pan, Dumbo, Pooh, IASW and Philharmagic. I love starting the trip with fantasyland. I have FPs on day one for all three mountains, and on my second MK day for Splash, Space, and the Mine Train, so I don't need to rush to those because I will be riding them anyhow eventually-- and don't care about the princesses. The second day we will probably head to tomorrowland. Somewhere we will fit in HM, Pirates, COP, and Buzz Lightyear.
2) Epcot--our first day we arrive about noon at the hotel and plan to be going in the late afternoon so I got a TT fastpass for that day at 4. TT has changed since last time we were there and I have a 16 year old car crazy son so that was a priority over Soarin'. On our full epcot day we have a soarin fastpass.
3) DHS--I have a 10-11 FP for Toy Story so we will head right to RNR and ride that standby, then ToT if not much of a line, then go do Toy Story. Have later FPs for Star Tours and an evening one back at ToT. Will make sure we fit in the Muppets, Art of Animation, and maybe Indiana Jones.
4) AK--we have FPs for the Safari, EE and FOTLK . We will probably head right to EE and ride it a couple of times before our safari FP.
That is what I have in my head. Of course it could all be ruined by rides closed by rain or whatever. But we've done it all before and will likely do it all again, so I'm not going to freak out about it.

Been here for the past week. My mornings: (1st hour fp+ every day)

Saturday 6/7 Magic Kingdom. On the first train off on Space, walked on Buzz, Fastpassed Space (15 minute wait secnd ride of the day), Rode Peter Pan 8 minute wait, walked on Big Thunder, 10 minute wait at Haunted Mansion, Fastpassed 7 dwarves (95 minute wait), walked on Little Mermaid....all in the first 90 minutes. nded up doing Space and Splash three times apiece that day, pulling eight fastpasses, and catching every major ride and both mjor parades and Wishes from the hub.

Monday 6/9 Hollywood Studios. Signed up JTA for two boys, 10 minute wait at Toy Story, 10 minute wait at Tower of Terror, Fastpass Rock n Roller coaster (50 minute wait), Fastpass Tower of Terror (40 minute wait), 10 miunte wat at Journey of the Little Mermaid. Ended up riding RnRC and ToT each three times that day and doing Fantasmic. Did both the Indy and LA shows.

Tuesday 6/10 Animal Kingdom (fastpass at 9amfor 8am park opening). Walked on Everest. Walked on Everest again. Walked on Primeval Whirl, Walked on Dinosaur, walked on Everest again, 5 mimute standby at Everest, Fastpassed Everest (yes, five times in the first two hours), Fastpassed safari, still a 20 minute wait the army had arrived, Fastpassed Kali. Ended up riding Everest eight times before we left the park at 1:30pm.

Thrusday 6/12 Epcot waked on first flight at Soarin, 10 minute wait at Sum of All Thrills, Fastpassed Test Track (100 minute wait), 10 minute wait Mission Space, Fastpassed Mission Space wait up to 40 minutes), Fastpassed Spaceship Earth (45 minute wait). Got a 4th fastpass for Maelstrom, grabbed a Beverly and hit the World showcase....

Rope drop still VERY much can work as most first hour fastpassers still hold on to them until near the end of that first hour and you can still very much mke it work for you. I only really pushed for extra fastpasses at Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom. They run out very quickly at the Studios and Epcot. But first hour touring can still work, even when it's crowded if you are in the park right at the front of the crowd and you move smartly and quickly to get your rides in.

Great info. Thanks! :thumbsup2 I'm booking my fp's at midnight. So you'd recommend booking fp's beginning the first hour and not the second hour right?

Glad to hear rope drop can still be beneficial! WE have a few RD days planned, looks like we will stick with them. Thank you!

Sounds like fun!!! I have to get to organizing what we want for fast passes, hopefully our choices work out as well for us as yours seems to be for you!

If you go the first week of Sept, I would like to follow you around the parks!

Just got back today (June 9 to 14 for park visits) and here was our experience. We have been Rope Drop people for every one of our trips.

Monday June 9 we did AK and went for early EMH. We scheduled FP for around 11 for Primeval, 12 for Everest and 1 for Dino. We did 3 Everest and the Safari before park opened at 9 but the waits were not that bad most of the day. There were extras to be had for most of the time we were there.

Tuesday June 10 we did DHS at rope drop. Crowded as gates opened lots of tour and school groups. We had Great Movie for 10:30, Star Tours for 11:30 and Toy Story for 2:20. At drop we went straight to Toy Story and it was about a 30 minute wait. It was 100 minutes by 10 but got down to 60 minutes later in day. We got several Star Tours rides in all day. We don't really do Tower of Terror or Rocking RC. We did have Tower FP but changed because son did not want to ride. Heck we even got extra Star Tours FP after we used last one.

Wednesday June 11 EPCOT Future area. This one was tricky for us. I booked Land ride for 10:30, Soarin for 11:30 and Spaceship Earth for 12:30. It was crowded and they opened right at 8:45. We got to Test Track at 8:55 and it was already a 40 minute wait. It was 100 minute wait when we got off.

This trip for sure sold me on the fact that DHS and EPCOT really need more rides badly.

Thursday June 12 MK EMH in morning and open until 1am. Like others have said families are flocking to Mine Train was 90 minutes in less than 10 minutes during EMH. It was the same on Saturday at rope drop. The waits in Fantasyland jumped up quickly but Tomorrowland was not bad at all. We got a lot done in the PM. We used FP at 6, 7, 8 and then made out like bandits as night went on.

Saturday June 14 MK rope drop. Crowds not to bad but again right away to Fantasyland and the Mine Train and Frozen girls. But the rest of the park was awesome. We rode Big Thunder 3 times in 10 minutes and twice without getting off. Splash twice in no time. Pirates 5 minutes. Like that all over the park until around 11. It was an awesome finish to our trip.

Rope Drop does pay off to me. EPCOT was the tricky one.
