How does renting points work?

I'm sorry if I sound so uninformed but I'm kind of confused about the whole rent points thing We are going to buy 200 -250 with Saratoga Springs being our home resort. Lets say we need 43 points for our annual vacation and don't want to borrow from the following years allowance of points or we dont have enough points etc, we can rent 43 points at $10.00 a point? So, for $430.00 we could stay for the week? Just need a little more info about the renting points. Thanks!

In this scenerio, you probably need someone to "transfer" 43 points into your account to book the whole reservation. You may wind up paying the other member $10/pt but technically, you are not "renting" since you control the reservation.

Another alternative is to book a weekend night for cash + member discount. You might wind up spending less than $430 and you'll be able to bank a few points too.

You do not 'rent' directly from Disney. You are actually 'renting' the use of another member's points.

You can go to the Rent/Trade board here on the DIS and take a look and see how things work. Also look at all the 'Sticky' Posts there, such as the FAQ's.

In your case, as mentioned, you would want to transfer the points into your account first, and then make the reservation yourself.
