How does refund work on SWA?

I was able to re-book a flight and in the process I was given a choice of refunding the money or holding for future use. I didn't think I could get my money back, but since I was able to click the button (and much prefer to just get a credit) I checked it. I printed my receipt which tells me that I have "Refund Requested."

Can anybody tell me how that works? Will I just see a credit on my visa? How long does it take?

Thanks!

It could take a couple of days or up to a full billing cycle. You could give them a call for a definitive answer.

What type of fare? If it was "wanna get away", the only refund will be the taxes. The rest will be travel funds for a future flight.

Yes, it was Wanna Get Away--I booked mostly with CC but also used a $20 off coupon from coke rewards, and used $16 in credits from a previous flight. So for THIS flight the far dropped $12 and there were 2 buttons--one said non-refundable and the only option was to hold for future use. The other button said refundable, which was automatically checked on my reservation, and within that you could select hold for future or request a refund. I figured I would give it a shot, but I am concerned that neither the refund nor holding for future will happen.

given what you just added, I would call them.

I don't think any of the 'wanna getaway' flights are eligible for full refunds. Only the fully refundable fares are...and those are full priced fares!!!
All other fares will be refunded in the form of a credit.
If I'm not absolutely sure I'm going to be traveling? I book the fully refundable fare. That way, I know I can cancel right up to travel day and get my money refunded. Otherwise, I go with a fare that will be refunded in the form of a credit.

I have changed my flight a number of times on SWA so was surprised to see that I had an option of getting a refund. I decided to call since I am a little wary that I will lose it altogether, but they said the credit was issued and it would take up to 7-10 business days. I will have to keep my eye on it. Strange but I'll take it if it works! The future credits are nice, but sometimes we end up losing them so I'd rather just get my money back.

Wanna Get Away fares are not refundable, so you will not be getting a credit card refund. You will only be getting a flight credit.
