hi everyone....I was wondering how private dining works....this may be a real stupid question, but do you have to be staying in the resort you want private dining?

I am not sure. Do you have a specific situation you are trying to plan?

I am going to move this over to the main Restaurant Board for a better review and response for you. :yay:

putting on my 'trying to be helpful hat' :rolleyes1

Private dining generally refers to 'in room dining', better known as 'room service', meaning that generally food is brought to your room.

HOWEVER sometimes at WDW private dining can be had elsewhere. As an example, we were at the GF one year and there was nowhere to eat lunch (other than counter service) after 2pm. The hotel suggested that we order private dining by the new pool.

HOWEVER don't expect just to park yourself and order a meal. For instance, I highly doubt that BW would deliver a room service meal to you if you chose to sit in a rocking chair on the porch (and their in room dining is now from Big River Grille and ESPN, so no real need to order private dining at BW outside as those places are opened at lunch)

Basically, yes, generally you need to order room service to your room, but sometimes the resort makes an exception.

If you have a specialty cruise booked I was told you can call private dining and have just about anything brought on the boat. I was given a number to call when I made my ressie and I just decided to call the other day to start looking into some goodies and I got the swan fitness club. Then through a series of transfers I got lost in the shuffle. So I guess I will start back with Disney dining and see where I get today. :confused3

You can have a Private Dining Experience at the GF (I don't know that any of the other resorts offer this) where they actually set-up a table for you at a specified location on the GF resort. You place your menu orders in advance to your trip and have a personal butler to serve the meal. It's very romantic, and also $$$, but a truly unique experience! Ours was arranged prior to our trip by calling GF front desk and asking for the private dining experience coordinator. You do not need to be staying at GF to have a Private Dining Experience there.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't real specific, but I was only asking as a general question.....I don't think we would probably try it, especially since there are so many other preferred places we would want to eat at.
