If I choose to pay OOP for a meal while I am on the DDP (if I run out of TS credits or CS)...how does that work? Do I notify them at the time I order or when? Any tips..thanks!

I don't even tell them I'll be on the DDP when I make my ADR's......especially this trip because the "particulars" on the DDP aren't out for Jan..but our ADR call in dates were this past week.
I tell them when I sit down and the server comes over. If you're on the DDP, but choosing to pay OOP for that meal, just don't tell them you're on the DDP at all. If you've told them when you make your ressies, just tell your server when they come to the table that you are NOT using the DDP to pay for the meal.
Then break out the CC (or cash).
FYI, I've heard too many "horror stories" of people trying to use their room key/charge privildeges to pay OOP when on the DDP. Servers get confused and charge the credits anyway, etc. I'd stick to a good ole' fashioned CC (or cash), instead.
We've been to WDW and used the dining plan multiple times now. There are some places we go and pay OOP, even if we have meals left. We're paying OOP for Cinderella's Castle Lunch & Hoop Dee Doo this time because price isn't worth using up 2 table service meals. I'd rather use the TS credits for the full experience at Teppanyaki or breakfast at the Crystal Palace.
You just tell your cashier or waiter how you want to pay for an item. If you're paying cash, then they never have to know you even have the DDP. If you're charging it to the card attached to your room, then make sure you tell them to NOT use the DDP credits.
