How does one become a Transportation boarder?

Yesterday I asked what I thought was an innocent question regarding luggage and the M.E. I should have been more thourough reading the stickys but that is really beside the point with respect to this question.

The responses would lead me to believe that there is a group of people who hang around the transportation boards. Is seems odd to me that someone would make this board their "home" board. I can understand the main board, the photography board, the WISH board or even Se Espanol. ;) I guess that what I am saying is that I am surprised that there is passion on the transportation board.:lmao:

I don't know if it would be passion or just a strong knowledge base. Many of those who post often travel a lot for personal/business reasons and have a lot of information to share to those less experienced.

Also keep in mind there are WDW CMs on this WDWinfo web site who share their knowledge based on their particular work area as well as of WDW, in general, in order to provide accurate information - in contrast to the frequent dis-information (every pun intended) that shows up frequently - specifically regarding WDW Transportation.

It's the pixie dust

Or the decided lack thereof.

OP--I posted on your thread yesterday, and I want to apologize, I could have been much kinder in my response.

That being said, I hang out here, because, well, I'm pretty OCD when it comes to travel and planning. I fly once or twice a year, and like to consider myself a fairly savvy, leisure traveler.

I hang here for tips, because the majority of my flights are from the snowy, cold, Northeast, heading south to FL. I've had 2 back to back years of significant delays on one leg of my flight due to snow, and I like to keep up on any great advice some of our more expert, experienced travelers have.

I also feel like I can share decent advice to folks like me, who don't travel quite as much as some of our experts, and lend a 'casual traveler' POV to things.

Plus, I've heard that Bavaria has really good chocolate, and will sometimes share. ;)

Believe it or not, some of us want to HELP other people. I avoid the subjective threads like 'my resort is better than your resort' because they become emotional arguments. There are only facts here.

But sadly many people think that we are big mean poopyheads because we don't dance around sprinkling pixie dust. There is no ulterior motive for most of us posting here - we aren't sitting back laughing at posters thinking 'aren't they all idiots?' (Well, a few maybe we do, when they continue to rant and rave and won't listen to facts, and generally make themselves and everyone else miserable. But we don't see that very often anymore around here ;) )

Me, I would rather know facts and be prepared. Before I flew 100,000 miles/year or more I wasn't prepared, and made mistakes, and had stress.

If I can now make it easier for others, I will. But sadly there are often ungrateful responses from people who don't like what they hear - I got that the other night from someone because I didn't give them 'good' news.

But thanks for asking, and thanks for not taking your thread the wrong way - sometimes we do try and lighten things up because we have such a bad reputation for being the Cranky Ladies of the Transportation Board (with a few gentlemen thrown in for good measure!)

All well thought out answers. Thanks for actually answering the question instead of questioning the question. I really was curious.

Thanks

Scott

You were about to see a one of those rare "cranky gentleman" if you didn't post that... :)

Well, I don't know where you and bicker and Lewis and a few others fall.

Duds, I do know - he sent me an email telling me how much he wanted to be a 'Lady' of the Transportation Board. I don't know what his wife thinks of that! :rotfl2:

We like to hang out here because there is no pixie dust on the transportation board. There are many here that share their experiences to help others with their travel planning.

You don't need to become a Transportation boarder. You'll have more fun being an overall DIS-boarder.

Now you can spend as much time as you want on the Transportation board.

I think most people who get referred to as Transportation boarders got that reference simply from being seen there so much.

Personally, I like this board b/c I'm all about getting to Orlando. (I already know what to do once I'm there.) ;)

Over the years, I've learned a lot about getting tips for cheap airfares, how to get/extend credits for SWA, how to find great discounts on car rentals, etc. It's nice to share these tips with the newbies.:goodvibes

A huge portion of vacation $$$ goes toward flying to MCO and renting a car. If I can keep these costs as low as possible, it keeps me happy.

Much happier than the other threads that bicker about why you should or shouldn't pull your kids out of school for WDW, how old your kid should be stroller-free, whether or not to homeschool, onsite vs. offsite and other never-ending debates.

I disagree. For me personally I have chosen to withdraw from most of the other boards here. There has been too much nasty talk over the years about certain topics. I do not feel welcome as a non-American on most of this website, sad to say.

This is about the only place where we can discuss facts without people resorting to name calling or posting small minded, offensive things. While there may be an infraction system in place, it doesn't prevent people from sharing their ignorance. I just don't want to be a part of it. I suspect that Mom hands out fewer points than the other board mods because the Transportation Board doesn't get very ugly.

I'm sorry to sound so negative, but I know that I am not alone - most of my band of 'dirty smelly foreigners' don't post much anymore either. :guilty:

'Mom' (could stand for mean ole moderator) is waiting..hasn't heard anything like..'Oh, we hang here because of the fair, even-handed moderation, because of the nice, friendly atmosphere that is to be found'..you know, that sort of stuff. Ah well.
And I can't believe you, yes you bavaria, used the word poopyheads...just too darn funny.
Anyway...this is a board of pretty good info, posters who genuinely enjoy helping others, who hand out advice and info that is good, and proven...even if some don't like to hear it. Yes, we try to keep the pixiedust to a minimum here....travel is just too darn serious to make funnies about. But, we have a great group of 'regulars' here.
Thanks to all of you who can be considered 'regulars'..you are the best!!! Yes, even the CLOTS...of which I am a proud member.

This is sort of funny! :lmao:
Some days, this is the only board of the Dis I go to. I think for the same reasons as some of the other "Ladies"...Oh, I think I might be one of them sometimes? I travel about 30+ weeks a year, and feel I might have things to contribute from time to time.

Plus, if I didn't come here more often, I totally would have missed bavaria saying 'poopyheads'!

Now, scoolover, talk me into getting back to the WISH board, where I don't seem to go as often, since I had surgery and can't work out lately.

I want to know how to say "poopyheads" in German.

I do like to come lurk around here from the restaurant board.

Er, in German it is a bad word we cannot use... however growing up we were also not permitted to say 'Mensch!' in our house (which means 'man!') so what do I know?

However there is a wonderful German term which I use fondly in my head for some of our gentlemen here - Lausbub. No, it's not that bad... But do a google search in English and the third photo from the left on the main page is I believe our own dudspizza ;)

Okay, let's see how badly I can butcher this....
Oh mein Gott!!!
What have we started here......poopyheads??? Is this going to become the word of the month for this board??

What makes someone passionate about the Dis Transportation board?
In my own personal case, I blame either a missing gene or very bad upbringing.

But sad to say, I love it here.

Do you know the movie The Breakfast Club? The prom queen puts down the geek by saying that the physics club is an academic club and therefore shouldn't count as a social club. The bad boy asks the geek what they do in the physics club. The geek says they talk about physics. The bad boy sys to the prom queen, "That's social. Demented and sad, but social."

So what does that say about why I like it here? I don't know, but I just love that quote and I've been trying to work it into a post for years! :rotfl:

In all seriousness, I can understand my own genesis here. Just about when I joined the DISboards was when Disney's Magical Express was announced. I was going to be one of the first people to use it, so I asked every question I could here, and also contacted Disney several times to gather information on the new service. When I returned as a DME veteran, I was one of the few who'd used it at that time.

I also noticed that there was a helluva lot of misinformation about DME floating about, and I took it upon myself to try to set the record straight where I could. I guess I just got used to it after that.

I like helping people enjoy travel. I remember things very precisely (and often-times, transportation is very cut and dried, where precision counts). I like writing. And then there's also that missing gene theory ....

I'm, IMO getting to be a regular here (although, are any of us really regular here?) And the question you asked has been asked soooooooooo many times, that's when Goofy4Tink decided it was time to make a sticky, and 'requested' that when one of 'those' threads popped up, to just point to that sticky. It really does answer the question that you asked. As also has Goof has pointed out, there isnt any pixie dust here. You dont see many big love fests down here, there are plenty of those going on in the other areas. I actually come here sometimes because of that reason, I start going into sugar shock when I read some of the other forums too much :).
