How does it work with magic bands?

Sorry if this has been asked before. Our last trip to WDW was back in December 2010 so our trip in March will be the first time using the magic bands. How exactly does it work with the dining plan? Do they scan the bands somehow? Is the procedure different for counter services and table services?

Thanks for any information! All of the changes that have been made since 2010 is really making me totally confused.

It works pretty much the same as your key to the world card. Instead of swiping you will connect Mickey Head on the band to a Mickey Head on the scanner and then input your pin which you can either choose at checkin or if you do online check in up to 60 days prior.

at TS restaurants they bring a scanner right to you and scan your magic band and you put in a 4 digit pin code that you will create at check in.

at QS the scanner is at the cash register and you just scan your magic band and again put in your 4 digit pin code.

same goes for snacks.

and if you add charging privileges to your magic band you can purchase things by also scanning your magic band and putting in the 4 digit pin code.
(just be sure that if you are purchasing a food item and you are wanting to pay using your room charging privileges and NOT with a dining credit that you make that clear to the CM)
