How does 7DMT compare to JotLM?

I was just wondering...

I know not that many have seen the 7DMT yet but for those who have and who have also seen the new Little Mermaid ride at MK...

Did the 7DMT meet expectations comparatively?

I was underwhelmed by the Mermaid ride and wouldn't stand in any sort of line to see it. I'm hoping the mine train ride is more special. I'm not too worried about a great thrill or anything... just more detail and uniqueness... something along the level of PotC in terms of appeal and detail.

Thoughts?

It's apples to oranges.

7DMT is a family friendly coaster. JotLM is a dark ride.

To be honest. I was disappointed with both. But that is me.

There really isn't a comparison. They are two completely different attractions. Here is a pretty extensive video of it, if you would like to know for sure. P.S. I think it compares more with BTMR.

I appreciate the replies. I do understand they are different kinds of rides. I was thinking more of expectations vs. experience.

Like, when I was at DL, I had decent expectations from California Screamin' but I was bowled over by how amazing the take-off was. I thought the new Mermaid ride might be more innovative or interesting than it was so I don't hate it but I didn't consider it to be much of an asset.

Just hoping the mine train has more attention to detail and a magicical feel than the Mermaid ride did.

It doesn't matter what anyone else things....after you ride them both then you can tell us what you think. I love the Little Mermaid and I am sure I will love 7DMT when I ride it in a couple of weeks. I am sure that means nothing to you.

Well since you've been to DLR, did you ride RSR? From my experience on RSR compared with the sneak peaks Disney Parks blog did of the animatronics in 7DMT, and combined with the curvy track that is indoors and outdoors, it seems to me that might be the closest comparison. Different ride vehicle, but storytelling and animatronic technology might be similar?? Can't say as I haven't watched any POV video.

7DMT has great detail and we thought it was worth the wait.

I wouldn't wait in line for Little Mermaid even though I like it because I've done it so many times and there's other rides comparable to it.

You are certainly giving off some unmagical vibes today. If you don't think your opinion means anything to me, then why give it? :confused3

Thank you! That sounds very positive! I think the point about there being other comparable rides to the Little Mermaid is a good one. Maybe that's what I was driving at.

Thanks! I am looking forward to trying out the Mine Train. :thumbsup2

Interesting. Actually, I haven't ridden RSR. I wish. We went in 2010 and CarsLand hadn't been built yet. We hope to one day. Thanks for the thoughts! I know RSR has been very popular. :thumbsup2

I, too, was underwhelmed by the LM ride. Mine Train was different! While the coaster itself is very tame (which I was thankful for as DS6 really enjoyed it as well), the details and effects are AMAZING! Just going through the mine was a ton of fun and the surprise at the end was great - make sure you keep looking at the house on the right as your train passes by at the end of the ride. :)

I am curious if there are any surprises in the dark section, particularly anything remotely intimidating to a kindergartner, including ominous music our loud noises. DDs will be fine outside, but the dark section has me concerned. It doesn't help that I'm trying to avoid spoilers. Might be sorry I asked the question.

It sounds fabulous! I don't know if anyone out there remembers the Disney Digests from the 60's or 70's but I remember in one of them the characters were at Disney and they got off the ride in the middle of a mine full of sparkling gems. It confused me when I went to Disney years later as there wasn't actually a ride like in the comic book. This ride sounds a lot like the comic book.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like what I was hoping for.

You do go through the mine, slowly, but you don't get out of the ride vehicle to do it.

In case you didn't see it before I will repost the You-tube video again and you can see exactly what it is like.

The video is a bit deceiving due to the fact that they rode it multiple times and repeated sections more then once. It's not as long as the video appears, but, it is much more detailed then others I have seen.

Thanks for the link! I had seen a shorter video before but this one is quite thorough. It looks like the ride is going to be worth the wait! Even the queue looks fun. I think we'll try to schedule FP for it but also try to get on it first thing so the girls can ride it twice maybe.

I didn't actually think one could get off the ride to go through it but something happened in the Disney Digest that made them get off the ride and somehow they ended up with Alice in Wonderland. I was reading that comic sometime in the early 70's but it could be older since I probably got it from one of my older siblings. I think it was entitled "DisneyLand" or something. Now I'll have to on ebay to look it up. Maybe I'll buy a copy.

Thanks again! It has the magic I was hoping for. :thumbsup2

I like Mermaid, but I'm hoping that the WDW version gets the same enhancements/improvements as the DCA version. Since there are only two new rides in NFL, they owe it to us to try to make both as impressive as they can.
