tell your family that you would like to take a solo trip? I'd like to take a solo trip for my 40th b-day, which is still 3+ years away. I think DH will be ok, he isn't dis-crazy like me and DD. DD, however, will have a huge issue with this. She loves disney, and will be sad/mad/feel jilted. Anyone had to deal with leaving family behind? Any suggestions?

Just got back from a Mom's only trip last week to celebrate one of us turning 40...DH and DS were OK with it because they know the other ladies/mom's I was going with...DS friends with the other ladies/mom kids so he could take solace in the fact that they were being left behind too...

Well, I'm going on a solo trip now since my little cousins weren't allowed to go, and by the time their parents said no, I was worked up for a trip to wdw!
I felt so bad (still do) that their hopes were crushed, but...... I went a head and booked my own solo trip! (shhhhhhh!) So you could just adopt my plan and not tell them where you are going!
Is it a little mean......maybe
Will I feel guilty......for a bit yeah
Am I still going to enjoy myself.....YES!!!!!!!!

I'll just have to keep my mouth shut and hide all bags when I get home.
Tell her your going to tampa or something, and you can still bring something back (you bought in in the airport for her!) And remember, it's not like your denying her her only trip to Disney. Eventually you'll bring her back, right? So, go and enjoy your solo trip!

How old will your DD be when you would go solo to WDW? Old enough to understand that Mom is a separate person and occasionally should do things that please her and don't include the rest of the family or young enough not to understand the concept?

That would determine the way I would approach it. And plan something pretty wonderful (doesn't have to be expensive) for the entire family that year to compensate for your solo trip. Just something everyone really enjoys doing together.

She will be 13 at that time. I think she could understand that I might want a solo trip.......I just don't think she'll like it. Oh well, I guess 3 years will be enough time for her to adjust to the idea:rotfl:

Well - she doesn't have to like it! :confused3 You were physically connected to her the first 9 months of her creation....now it's normal for her to do things without you and you to do things without her. You'll still have family trips, but this one is for you solo. I don't see anything wrong with that, and I think you're setting the right example by GOING. Perhaps some day she'll take her own solo trip when she's an adult!

pirate: Now this is just me - but I'd never want to go to Disney as a solo, if that's the intent. Normally, it is the wife and I. Sometimes with friends, and occassionally the son(he's 31) and I will go for a trip - normally in March for spring training. Being with others doesn't "cut into" the fun for me - it expands it!

When I decided on my solo trip... I proposed it to the family as me going away for a bit of "mom" time. I didn't tell them WHERE I was going til I knew they were OK with me going at all. Once i sprung it on them that I was going to WDW... I played up how excited I was about Shopping and Seeing the Movies at Epcot... all the stuff they don't like!!:rotfl:

So they don't feel too bad about me going without them. Am I going to ride EE... OH Yeah!! Do I have to rub it in.... no way:thumbsup2
