How do you view "Convince Me" threads?

Convince me threads...Hmmmmm...

I'm in the Carol, Judy, and Auntie Camp on that one. I really think most don't mean any harm. Maybe their view of a campground cabin is that they're like a KOA Kampin' Kabin. Years ago we made the mistake of stayin' in one of those on a recommendation.....once.

I still believe there are probably plenty of Deb's 1-4 in the mix too.

My newly established personal guidelines are these:

Give the benefit of the doubt to the OP. If they are sincere then a friendly helpful answer is best.

If they are a pot stirrer and are just trying to start a big stink...then a nice answer is still best. That way they don't get the satisfaction of starting a fight then sitting back for a good laugh at all the "Campers Gone Wild" as someone put it on another thread.

After a discussion gets heated.....when OP drops out, so do I (if not before).

It's a toss up for me. I don't know which I like better the "Convince Me" threads or the "Warn Me" threads. Both are good medicine after a long day as long as nobody gets hurt.

The reaction to it comes across as bullying..albeit, anonymous virtual bullying. I am a member of different forums, motorcycle, photography,popup camper, guitar. And IMO this particular forum does come across like a little gang of bullys, hanging out in the bathroom at school smoking cigs and picking on the freshman. MO. When you use the term newbie the perception is that you are above these pesky people who are too lazy to do a search. Might as well close down the posting on the forums because they have all been answered before. Best way to deal with it is ignore. Ask a dumb question, get no responses, tells a lot. To be offended by a general query says more about your own insecurities I think. That is the dynamics of a group though. You asked.

Normally I don't have an issue with the threads posted by newbies. Usually someone nice comes along (and maybe even me on a non-snarky moment, however rare that may be these days) and answers the question. However, I take great issue with someone(s) who has a great number of posts (i.e. 6,000+) and comes along and starts a thread like that. One who has that number of posts should have the savvy on a said forum to know better, on any section. I mean really, can you not use a search function by 6,000 posts? So when Gatordad, LivLuvsDisney, Magicbus and I posted little snarky comments, here comes the resort board posse to the rescue. Now, I understand that I have been part of a fort posse myself, going to the rescue of some fiends that have become part of an issue on another part of the boards in the past, however, I don't ever recall any fiend setting themselves up like the peeps at the resort and community boards do here. Can't they go clean Al's stall #2? I bet they can find a way to get the oompa loompa song out of Deb's head? I have no desire to go outside my comfy zone, let them stay away in peace.

Maybe it's just me, but on that thread, I didn't think that the initial responses were snarky and certainly not rude. It wasn't until the OP over reacted that things took off.
