How do you view "Convince Me" threads?

Maybe it's just me, but on that thread, I didn't think that the initial responses were snarky and certainly not rude. It wasn't until the OP over reacted that things took off.

Originally I was of that opinion too. If this is true, it only makes my point come to light more clearly in that she was in fact trying to pick a fight and had the posse ready.

I read a thread on the Community Board where the OP of the thread in question regularly posts. She was serious about her questions on the cabins and got rubbed the wrong way with the "here we go again" posts. She had camped at the fort before and in no way said anything negative about the fort, her "convince me" was about staying in a cabin. She left with a negative impression about the "fiends". Her "posse", which many have called them, (they were her CB friends not from the resort board as some have repeatedly stated) took it upon themselves to come over to the camping boards to defend her. The OP had already left the thread and left town on a vacation before they came over here and wasn't even aware of her "friends" coming to her defense until after her return a few days later. I just don't want people to keep coming down on this particular OP without all the facts. The OP really wanted to get info on the cabins and her "convince me " was tongue in cheek but some didn't get that.

Again and again it seems I have to repeat myself. A person, no matter where they normally reside on the boards, with that many posts, knows how to convey a "tongue and cheek" thread. l am not going to back down on this. If you talk that much on this board in general, you are aware of how things go. I will absolutely not apologize for anything I said, did or am going to say about it. So her friends came to her rescue and took it upon themselves. Is that still not a posse from another board? Come on, stop defending this woman! She completely over reacted to small little comments and then left when things got heated. On top of that, she went on two separate boards on the DIS and whined about the whole "treatment" she got on the camping boards to stir up more trouble. And I am supposed to have any sympathy?

I still smell a rat, no matter what you try to convince me otherwise. She jumped too quickly for me to think any other way.

So, I am thinking about doing something about my lovable little dog. Convince me a paper bag is the way to go...

(Dang, where is my tongue in cheek smilie...)

In all seriousness, there are more important things to do than worry about trying to convince anyone of anything. I have never stayed at the Fort, but hope to soon. All the convincing I've ever needed is found reading helpful advice to other people. And the snark...well that's just a little added entertainment on the side.

In short, I don't view Convince Me threads any differently than Snarky Posts. It's - Just - A - Forum for Pete's same!

I'm tryin to save up enough to stay at the All Stars so I can say I actully stayed at a Disney Resort. My friends at the pig roast and turkey shoots will be inpressed.:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 I just hope they gots me some moon pies and rc coke cola over thar.

Haha. I'm lurking while I work and this had me cracking up. I worked right behind the moon pie factory, and the smell coming from there is to die for. It's great being a Tennessean.

Also it's funny to see people so terrified of camping. It's sad they can't enjoy the great outdoors...even on a mild level.

I'm in the Carol, Judy, and Auntie Camp on that one. I really think most don't mean any harm. Maybe their view of a campground cabin is that they're like a KOA Kampin' Kabin. :scared1: Years ago we made the mistake of stayin' in one of those on a recommendation.....once. :sad2:

HEY, what's wrong with KOA Kampin' Kabins?? I've stayed in my fair share of them and never found one that was really "bad". Bring a sleeping bag, crash on the bed and use the bath house!! Hell of a lot cheaper than hotels when your traveling without a camper!! Or when your final destination is tent camping and you don't want to set up for an overnight :-)

Nothing is really WRONG with them. What happened was this.....

We went through a complicated triple house selling/closing ordeal 10 years ago. Some friends of ours sold their house to purchase our house and we bought another house. After all the closing/moving etc was done we decided to rent a mountain cabin and kick back for a weekend. Until OTHER friends became involved. They told us about some cabins in the campground where they kept their camper and how wonderful they were. We were then roped into a full weekend of other horrible activities that I will not go into. Bear in mind that we and our friends were thinking mountain cabin..NOT Koa cabin. Actually, at the time I'd never heard of a KOA Kabin. No intentions of any camping at all were involved in this trip. It wasn't a stop over, but the destination in itself. We would actually have preferred a hotel atmosphere that weekend. (Incidentally, we didn't even know to bring a sleeping bag.)

So you see, our experience was a bit startling as we were expecting one thing and got another when we got there. If we'd been more thoroughly informed we could have made a better decision. We just felt that we'd been misled a little,... OK a lot, by the other party that got involved. I'm thinking they were just roping us all into staying in the same place they were. ;) They really built those cabins and the scenery up as something great. (Perhaps it was the marijuana cloud that hovered over the campground.) :hippie: That's another story.

There was nothing wrong with the Koa KK's per se. I should have clarified in my previous post. I was only trying to point out that some may have a KOA type cabin in mind and the FW cabins are NOTHING like those. :flower3:

That is from the gift shop outside of Mission Space. We have a collection of silly hat pictures from our trips. :rotfl:
