How do you treat a sunburn?

I agree with PP; keep the aloe in the fridge! Feels GREAT on sunburned skin. Best of luck magpie!

And this is why i love the DIS- never would have thought of vinegar! We always use the sticky blue gel with lidocaine and aloe vera.

Ice cream, preferably from Dairy Queen. ;)

Wait, here you go

(Trusting Magpie will appreciate the joke here!)

:rotfl: :thumbsup2 I could go for one of those right now.

If you don't have vinegar plain cold tea will work as well. Maybe look into getting him a rash guard shirt they're much more comfortable and cooler looking to swim in than a t-shirt.

I always have at least one aloe plant in my house and I will break off a branch of it and spread the jelly on the burn. works (and feels) great!

Another voice for using vinegar. If he doesn't want to smell like a pickle  he can soak in bath water that has vinegar in it. The smell doesn't linger as long as when you spray it on.

The main thing is to get the burn out. The cool clothes and vinegar will do that.

I also use Noxema. I keep it in the fridge during the summer. It puts moisture back in the skin.

I have used Solarcain too. It helps but I kept spraying it over and over so used a lot of it.

He's going to smell like apple cider! :lmao:

I just sent him downstairs to have a vinegar bath, and I offered him a nice big jug of white vinegar. But did he want it? No, he's GOT to have the rest of my apple cider vinegar.

Boys!!! :confused3

Vinegar releases the heat, it doesn't smell much after it dries. It might sting a bit...I've always used it and never have blistered. It seems to help. Aloe Vera is nice and soothing on it after the vinegar dries.

Aloe w/lidocaine and ibuprofen. I agree with no bathing, it dries out your skin.

As someone else said, until the heat is out, he will continue to burn. Cold wash cloths!!

I use an aloe mist, I think it's banana boat. It's just like the misting sunscreen, except it's aloe. LOVE it.

I know it sounds crazy but it does seem to shorten the life of a sunburn... when you notice you are getting red, apply sunscreen! It takes 24 hours for the sunburn to peak and applying it when you get inside seems to keep it from getting worse. :wizard:

I swear by it!:thumbsup2 You can call your Dr and they can call it in for you. My DD got sunburned so bad a few years ago and this is what my Dr. gave her. It's what they use on burn victims and it works fast on a sunburn. It relieves the pain fast too!

As a matter of fact, our cheer team goes to the beach each year for camp and I always take it. Without fail someone ends up needing it. A friend of mine has a little girl who was burn pretty bad on her face and shoulders. She applied it one night and the next morning the small bubbles were no longer on her nose & it was no longer red. :thumbsup2

I keep it on hand now and use it for any kind of burns like with the straighting iron, oven or whatever. I think it's a must have for any medical cabinet.

I highly reccommend spraying it on straight. I know it stinks but it works so much better.

LuvsJack mentioned Noxema. Noxema was originally marketed as a surnburn remedy.

Cool shower as soon as possible after getting burned to "draw the heat out" (ie keep the burn from "feeding" on itself & getting deeper.) And then Aloe, aloe, aloe.
