How do you treat a cold? one with a sore throat too?

I swear by Alka Seltzer cold meds(the actual fizzy stuff, not the gel caps). Mucinex is good but you HAVE to stay hydrated with it. I'm also a big fan or saline sprays. They are great for lubricating the sinuses and throat to help the nasty stuff come up and out.

For a sore through I have to drink soda, water feels too heavy. When my kids have a sore throat I make jello and have them sip it before it sets. It's supposed to be good for coating the throat. I haven't tried it yet, but they say it works(could be their just excited to drink sugar water:rotfl:) When mine is sore I like to eat chicken noodle soup or chicken broth with lime juice and hot sauce. IDK why...

Oh and for kids, it's the weirdest thing but I SWEAR it works:
When they have a cough, put Vicks on the bottoms of their feet and cover them with socks. I don't know why it works, maybe it's just soothing, but I do it every time.

I start the Vit C immediately when I notice symptoms. We have a doctor friend whose dad is also a doctor. Dad doc was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and sent home to die. He began massive infusons of Vit C. Tumor disappeared. That was 35 years ago and he's still kicking. Convinced us and it does work. Try and see if it works for you before you :confused3.

Will not comment on cancer treatments except to say I have known and heard of those that have been cancer free after certain treatments, vitamins, minerals, etc. Hasn't been proven that any one particular thing will work, but glad when 'anything' will make that big C go away. Knew one lady 'dying' of pancreatic cancer, gradually got better with no other treatments, then died 20 yrs later of something else. Don't understand what happens in our bodies sometimes.

As for the colds and Vit. C, I have one dsis and db, that do go the huge Vit. C route immediately, but their cold's duration does not seem to be affected. You had said 'overnight', and that was what I had wondered about - never saw anyone with a full fledged cold get over it in one night!

Lots of things do make symptoms better, but colds have varying lengths and intensities by their very nature/types, health/ages of people getting them. Most Drs. will tell you there are 'no' cures, or else none of us would suffer through them.

Yes. Things like Afrin create something like an addiction where you just have to keep using it or you will be stopped up and can't breathe. That's why I just don't use it anymore.

I've always used it for 3 days max and never had an issue. I use it while stuffed up and then after 3 days, my body has generally flushed out the nasty stuff and I'm okay to get off it.

I've never needed to use Afrin for more than three days. Like right on the three day mark, my nose will start clearing up on its own and I don't need it anymore. Funny how it works out that way.

I usually just tough it out. I'll take a Halls if my throat is super sore.

The problem with overuse is that the body sees it as the "new normal" and even after the symptoms should clear, there's still congestion. I don't think it's just using it past three days, but some use it more than twice a day and/or more than the recommended dose. Most also have benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, which may be harmful to the nasal linings over time. It also kills bacteria, which may not be a good thing.

I guess some people even use it without any particular illness because it makes breathing through the nose easier. Then the body adjusts.

I heard from a Co worker chewing on zinc lozenges helps. I know Zinc helps boost your immune system.

We usually take Sudafed capsules, tea, orange juice, and recently we bought Vitamin C tablets.

Today though DH said get Alka Seltzer cold tablets. That seemed to help a little With congestion.

For a sore throat I can only think of hot tea with honey.

Depends on what's on hand.
Hot tea with honey and lemon; hot lemonade (it works!); or gargle with warm salt water. Throat lozenges.
Mucinex or Tylenol Cold & Flu or Alka Seltzer Cold
Juice, water, sleep.
