We have a Marvin the Martian standing on the Earth with a Peace on Earth banner.

Over the years I've used all three, currently I have a beautiful angel that I use when I put up the big tree. If I'm traveling over the holidays, I put up a smaller (table top) tree and it has a bow.

For many years, it was a paper plate, clothespin and glitter angel that my son made in preschool at 2 1/2. Then, he wanted to know why we didn't get a "prettier" angel, so now we have a fiber optic one. I love it, too, but I still put out our first angel on a lower branch.

A big bow that I made. It matches the ribbon I have throughout the tree.

For a while we had a Santa on top of the tree that had a garland with lights entwined, but he had the unfortunate habit of taking a header at the most inopportune moments, so now he's been relegated to a safer and lower post on the dining room table. (Or will be, after Thanksgiving-no Xmas stuff out yet). We've got a lighted angel, now, a bit smaller and lighter than our top-heavy santa. I looked for a long time for one that didn't have that creepy-weird doll face, this one's actually grinning! My mom loves to do giant red bows on the top of her tree with streamers that run the length of the tree.

So, does anybody do tinsel? Rope kind or drape kind?

I have an angel. If I ever change it I am not sure what I would use but it would have to light up.

Growing up we always had a star or an angel. But I found a beautiful Santa dressed in rich velvets and jewel tones that we use now.

A beautiful painted metal cardinal (folk-arty). I collect animal ornaments so it's the perfect topper for my tree!

I always had an angel that my mother made for me. It was simple made from yarn and a copy of one that she and my dad had on the top of their tree from their first XMAS together. Now my DD has a star that she loves, so we alternate. This year I might have two trees - one in the LR front window and one in the family room to enjoy as we relax - so we can have both!

I'm working on building an ornament collection so I can have a traditional tree and and a FLA tree!

Firstly, we have a star for the most part, but we also had a Santa for a couple of years.

Secondly, A BOW??? I'm really confussed! Is that an American thing? I have never heard of a bow on top of a tree! I guess it is just something I have just missed, becuase this thread makes it seem quite common. Would someone mind posting a picture of it? I can't even picture it in my head.

This is sort of how it can look (though this tree is too skinny!)

I chose other even though it is an angel but it's a Minnie Angel we got in Epcot a few trips back. She is lit and moves. She goes on our main tree and Tink tops our Disney ornament tree!!

We used to do all sorts of things on top when DD was little, she never had a preference. After DS was born, from the very first Christmas he could talk, he insisted on a star.

That was the only thing I hadn't done, and didn't want to do, but he had already decided that ONLY stars go on top of Christmas trees, and he was just so sweet and cute about it there was no way I could I deny him!

He picked it out all by himself, and we've used it ever since. And honestly, it's been my most favorite of all.

So, for us it will always be a star!

We had a star that lit up for years--DH & I bought it when we were first married, and that was the only thing we used. Then came the day when the lights quit working, and we soon discovered there was no way to fix it. :(

I'm embarrassed to admit that I honestly can't recall what we replaced it with? All my Christmas totes are now sitting in my dining room, so I'll have to start digging to try & remember.

A large bow with cascading ribbons. But I like the sound of the Tinkerbell! :goodvibes
