Not that I know my garbage men personally, I still don't want to kill them! For Christmas DH got me a new set of knives because my old set was just done. I probably could have gotten them sharpened, but he bought me a new set. So my question is - how do I throw them out?? I can't just throw them in a black plastic bag and hope nothing pokes out! Or is there somewhere I could donate them? They are Hinkles (sp?) - and though the steak knives tips have mostly broken off, the cooking knives are still good, just dull.

TIA

Henckels are very expensive! I'd just get them sharpened. :)

If you still prefer to throw them out, you could wrap them in a bunch of newspaper and throw them away.

Donate them to your closest charity with a thrift store. They'll be GLAD to take them.

Whether you donate them, or throw them out, I would put duct tape along the sharp edge of the blade, so they can be transported and handled safely.

I would donate them too, I'd probably check with a local soup kitchen first since they would probably benefit the most.

Or throw them in a sturdy shoe box/amazon.com size box and label it "knives" and tape the lid shut. That's what I've done when I've donated knives in the past.

I threw out an old set of knives last year, and I wondered the same thing. Finally I got a couple pieces of corrugated cardboard and I put the knives against the cardboard and put masking tape over the blades, then I put antoehr piece of cardboard over the top and masking taped around it A LOT. Then I threw that out. Basically the knives were taped to the cardboard and weren't going anywhere.

I've never had to throwaway a set, but if I broke a knife, I just wrapped it in a ton of newspaper, and taped the ends shut.
