How do you switch resorts in the middle of a trip?

Hey all,
My family and I are Disneyland experts, but we are planning our first trip to WDW for the first week of June 2008. Since we can't decide on what resort we want to stay at, we have considered doing a split stay. Does anyone know how that would work? If we are staying at the French Quarter and then change to the Contemporary, do we check out and lug all of our luggage to the new resort, or is that something the cast members would help us out with?

Anyone with experience willing to share advice?
Kathy

There are loads of threads on this topic - some people have had good experiences with splits and some haven't.

We really enjoy them!

When you're ready to check out of POFQ, call bell services. They will pick up your bags and move them to the CR during the day. You check out of POFQ and head either to the CR to check in (room may or may not be ready) or head to a park and go to the CR later in the day to check in.

Make sure to carry whatever you'll need during the day (i.e. swimsuits if you intend to go to the new resort and swim), as the bags may not get to the CR until late afternoon. For some people with little kids, the idea of carrying everything they might need is unappealing, and they take their bags via cab/their own car to the second resort. While their room may not be ready, they have access to their bags at bell services at the new resort all day.

Glad you asked this today. We are also somewhat of Disneyland experts, but this will be our first trip to the World. At first a split stay seemed overwhelming, but now since we have family joining us towards the end of our stay it's looking like a good idea. I'm thinking of splitting our stay between Boardwalk Inn and Coranado Springs. I've got to look into it a little more though.

we did this on our last trip.. I say its not worth the time it takes.. and one I wouldn't let Disney do it.. I would just take a cab and (it will be about what it costs you to tip the bell services and get your bags over there your self. Anyways... we did WL and AKL last trip.. although we don't regret.. we will be just staying at one place next time.. have fun either way!

Splitting Disney Resorts

No problem here at all and may I add that the way to do it is the way you chose to. From a moderate to a deluxe.

Two ways to do this:
1) hail a cab and haul yourselves and your luggage; it's the fastest way with luggage and all,

2) go to Bell Services at the first resort and arrange for them to transport your luggage to the Contemporary, then you hop on the theme park bus closest to your first resort and then once you reach the theme park grab a bus to the Contemporary Resort.

In my humble opinion, having done this many times, by the time you finish tipping for luggage handling, you might as well have paid for a cab. Bell Services does a great job, however, your are at their mercy while waiting for your luggage when you could already have had it with you.
