How do you sort sleeping arrangements in Orlando with a teenage son & daughter

I am another who votes for aero bed. That's what we are going to do with our DS and DD

We planned ahead and bought into DVC! :teeth: (DS 9, DD 5) Growing up, I always shared with mom and my brother with my dad. It was tough for the guys, since they are a bit bigger. Mom and I had plenty of room!;)

Nearly all the rooms on I Drive seem to have 2 double/king beds. Naturally I wouldn't expect my teenage daughter & son to share a bed, so the only alternative is for DD & I to share, and for DS to share with DH. There is no way my DH would ever go for this, and I just wonder how do people get around this problem - am I just looking at the wrong places?

I'm not sure why your DH, in the interests of having to pack an inflatable bed/someone sleeping on the floor couldn't sleep with DS for the duration of the vacation. I really don't mean to be rude, it just seems silly to me. Flame away!

Well, he works very hard all year, and I think it's only fair he should be able to sleep comfortably while on holidays, and happily I seem to be the only one he can sleep comfortably with! ;)
Also, it is very, very expensive for us to go to Florida from Ireland and not something we can do too often. The last time we went was in 2001 (first trip for our kids, then 11 & 13), and our previous visit was our honeymoon in 1987. So we would like to be able to sleep in our own beds. In Ireland most hotels have family rooms with a double and 2 single beds.
Also, because of luggage allowances we wouldn't like to have to bring our own bed!

Thanks, we actually stayed in Homewood Suites and thought it was lovely, didn't realise you could get rooms with 2 beds.

When my DD was small sleeping with her was like taking beating!! She kicked, she flung her arms across the bed, and scrunched down till her head was in your back and then she would push and push till you were in the living room on the couch.

For the life of me I cannot find it so perhaps someone on here will refresh my memory, I know that I have seen an ad on this site for kid friendly rooms, showing a queen bed and then a separate area with 2 twins...........I think it was for a Holiday Inn. You may also want to check out the forum on here called Orlando hotels and accomadations. I am sure you will find something quite acceptable. And I can understand how when you go on vacation you would like to sleep with your husband!

You took the words out of my mouth. This is exactly what we did for my two sons when they were younger. Worked perfectly! ::yes::

He he he.. This brought back memories...The last time we went on a family vacation was in 1994, when I was 18 and Michael was 15. I slept with mom and he slept with dad. We probably slept together until I was in 3rd grade and he was in kindergarten, because he was scared of the dark.

We did go to a wedding last year out of town that my brother was in and he was supposed to stay in a suite with the other groomsmen. I was sharing a room with my parents. He got so disgusted that they were still awake and drinking at 3am he came to our room, and had no choice but to bunk with me. And we didn't freak out or have any inappropriate thoughts...he's my little brother, for petes' sake, no matter how old we get.

And flame away, but every time DH and I spend the night with my parents, I usually go in my brothers' room in the mornings and wake him up and we lay there and talk and cut up like we did when we were little...It's nice to remember when we were little and inseparable.

At WDW we stay at AKL or WL and get the bunks or at CR and get the daybed. If in a moderate or not at Disney, DH sleeps with DS and I sleep with DD. When not at WDW, we do try to find rooms with a sleeper sofa or something as we both don't like sharing with the kids for long. :smooth:

IMHO your best options on site for value for money would be one of the cabins at Fort Wilderness ( http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/resorts/ftwildrooms.htm ) , I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but any one I know that's stayed there has really enjoyed the experience.

Off site there are a number of suite hotels that would offer you 2 bedrooms ( so the kids could share a room, but not a bed) some even have sofabeds in the living room if that proved necessary. One I don't think alreadu mentioned is the Vistana Resort ( http://www.starwood.com/sheraton/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=5608 ) The other option ( a very popular one with the Brits) is to rent a villa. There are many villa rental companies in Orlando, the one I found best were Premier Vacation homes http://www.pr-vacation.com . The other option is to rent direct from an owner, there are many sites that deal with private rentals, but if it's not something you've tried before I always think that the slight extra cost of going through a local management company is worth paying so that you have a local point of reference if things don't turn out as you'd expected.

Thats the way we did it growing up too and most of my friends that have older kids work it that way to...I think for a one or two week vacation its not a big deal to share a bed with your kid on vacation..

Well, DH & I prefer to not be with the kids so we always get two rooms adjoining. Each kid gets there own bed.

My DB and I each slept with one of my parents....it was easier than listening to us fight! But, then $$ was more of an object. If a mini-suite or two rooms was an option, I am sure that my parents would have been more than happy to ship us off into our own room and enjoy their piece and quiet!!

While I have nothing to compare it too, I am pretty sure my DB and I fought more than any two siblings on earth!! We love eachother now....but my poor parents.....My Mom seems to have blocked it out....she thinks we got along, she has selective memory!

I found it it is the Holiday Inn Main Gate east and they are called kids suites it says 69.00 a night but I guess that would depend on what time of the year you are planning on coming.

There is also the Holiday inn Sunspree resort with kid suites (I king, 2 twins)

double tree resort vills has 1 queen and 2 doubles

caribe royal suites has 2 queens and a sleeper sofa

quality suites maingate east, 2 doubles and sofa

holiday inn maingate 1 queen, 1 bunk and 1 twin

courtyard lake buena vista 2 doubles 1sleeper sofa

celebrity suites lake buena vista 2 doubles and a sofa

buena vista suites 2 queens 1 sleeper sofa

holiday inn family suites 1 king 2 twins

Just to name a few!!

We are DVC owners since 1991 and one of the reasons we bought was because we had 2 little kids, a boy and a girl, and we knew that someday our arrangement up to that time would not work (we would go Dad with son and Me with daughter). We have been getting a 2 bedroom villa for years now and the kids each have their own bed and bathroom. When we stay non-DVC at Disney we go to a deluxe, the Poly is our favorite and there is a daybed that our son still says is comfy for him. We have also done AKL or WL where there are bunkbeds. The values and mods don't really appeal to us any longer because they only have double beds and the rooms are not large enough for us. If we do them sometime in the future we would get 2 rooms.

When they were younger, DD and DS shared a bed. As they got older, DD would share with me and DS would share with DH.

Last year, we bought into DVC, so now we just get a 2 BR.

Next year, when we all go, we plan on going to Universal, for a few days, so I've been checking into hotels near there.

I found Holiday Inn & Suites on Kirkman Rd. They have 1BR suites for $77 a night and 2BR for $104. I have no idea if they are nice or not, though.

We are also faced with this.....DS 18 , DD 15.....When they were younger and smaller I would sleep with DD and dh would sleep with ds.....but we are all to uncomfortable now.....We have started to stay in an suite hotel such as Embassy Suites.....or the Courtyard by Marriott (they offer two room suites as most locations)....This has made vacationing much more comfortable for everyone....We got two adjoining rooms in Reno a couple of years ago and that was the best....since that provided two bathrooms....

Orlando has plenty of All-Suite hotels that fit your Family.
I know when me and Mom go to Florida we have our own beds because we don't like to share. We always get a room with 2 beds no matter what.

SpringHill Suites By Marriott
Homewood Suites
Embassy Suites Hotels
Hoilday Inn Family Suites aka Nick Hotel
Hawthorn Suites
AmeriSuites
Sierra Suites
Staybridges Suites
