Welcome to my first ever pre-trip report started much too late! Better late than never I always say! We will be heading to WDW 1/11/09 - 1/18/09 which is oh so close yet too far away! As you will shortly learn, I'm a full-time college student which means little time for anything else! This pre-trippie will discuss my adventures in planning while attempting to stay focused on classes  will I make it? Anticipation!!

Well.. I guess I'm on break so you know I did. Did I not mention I was bad at this?! :confused3 well hold on to your hats because you're in for a unique and slightly odd ride. Look to this post for chapter additions (if I remember to do them.. oh and how...) And yes, yes... the board name will be explained in due time. Patience is a virtue.. and a pain. But you'll live I promise.

It's a long story about how this trip came to be so I hope you're ready. I fully intend on reporting back after with a full trip report and dining review :goodvibes food porn shall live through my second rate digital camera! But before we get started on the birth of said trip, let me introduce the cast of characters.

Another fun insight into my craziness, I will post the Disney music I'm listening to while posting. That may be more for my fun than yours.
Current Track: Once Upon a Dream - Sleeping Beauty

(Me)Meagan, 21, full-time student; part-time OCD planner
I'm a student at the University of Minnesota Duluth majoring in English with a minor in History. I'm currently in my senior year :cool1: I approached this trip with an obsessive need to plan the last detail because it was the first time me and the future DH would be traveling solo. I've been to the world 3 times as a child, the last being in 2000. I love food (even if I'm too petite to show it) and the occasional alcoholic beverage (the whole turning 21 in July thing will do that to you). Thrill rides are the best for me, but I'm game for anything. I'm not afraid to get in touch with my inner-child because.. let's face it.. it wasn't that long ago that I was a lil tyke! Recently I was blessed with a darling nephew.. specifically in May of this year. I swear he's as cute as a button. I'm not getting baby fever YET, but needless to say the future DH may be a little concerned.

future DH, Matt, 20: Part-time Student; Love of my life
My fiance and I have been together for 3 and half years and have been engaged for almost a year. We wanted to celebrate the engagement earlier but saving allowed for a bigger and better celebration at the world! He's a big baby for heights, but we'll attempt to get him on some mountains! He loves food as well, though won't admit to enjoying alcohol. It's illegal.. He has never been to the World or even on a plane for longer than an hour! :scared1: The only downside to this is it will be a case of the blind leading the blinder at the airport. Matt is more of a "you do it because I don't care" type... the typical guy (apologies to DISmen) but I may convince him to join DIS and input his comments.

Here we are at Christmas last year. Mind the pink Santa hat.. I've worked seasonal at Victoria's Secret in retail for 3 years now. Would you like a discount? ;)

Up next will be the birth of the trip if I can warm up my fingers enough in the below zero temperatures.

No readers yet.. but that's ok. I'm sure I'll collect some along the path :goodvibes

Current Music: "Forget About Love" - Aladdin, Return of Jafar

The birth of the trip was a bit elongated by the insufficient budget of two college kids. In February of this year we got engaged (an expense in and of itself!) and we decided that we would like to celebrate that. Well, being in the middle of school we thought perhaps spring break? Needless to say that couldn't happen on such a short notice. Perhaps the summer? Nah.. that's the time for work and making the money to last while being a full-time student during the year. :thumbsup2

The 2008-2009 senior year for yours truly started up in September. The ideas for a celebration trip were still in mind, but pushed to the back burner. I wouldn't say we were saving.. but we put aside a little money here and there just in case. So I continued into my school year planning on sending out resumes and graduate school applications. I was busy and spent many nights :surfweb: for information on what to do.

It wasn't until October that my sister began to pester me with tales of her upcoming Disney cruise with her husband and my new nephew. :headache: Rub it in my face why don't you?! [side note: she then found out 4 days before she left that she was pregnant again :scared1: two babies with only 13 months between? Crazy lady! :yay: but I'm happy] Disney cruise? Way too much on the itinerary for a vacation in my mind. At least when you consider it's been 8 years since I've been to the world! But Disney? Hmm.. now that was a groovy idea! I stayed up later that night in full graduate school prep mode when I strayed (I admit) and began crunching numbers for a Disney vacation. Winter break fell late in January for me and that happened to be a great time to go! Things started looking promising :woohoo:

....but the future DH.... that would be the hard one to press. He wasn't one to be called thrifty but when it came to overabundant expenses that we didn't HAVE to have, he could get quite scary. I glanced at the clock around 2am (I know, I know.. night owl) and thought... well.. he'd only been asleep for 3 hours. That's not too long to wake him up right? But I thought better of it and began actually planning out the trip to get a cost before waking the sleeping bear. 5 nights, 1/11-1/16 with park hopper 4-day passes and flights. Pretty cheap. My new flashy Disney Visa could handle that and we'd have 6 months to pay it off. An easy task if we were careful with our expenses from now until then. I took the plunge and walked into the bedroom where the future DH was sleeping with one of our precious kitties on his pillow... strategically curled around his head to make it appear almost as though he had on a ridiculous hat.

[Side introduction to my babies: Simba and Nala are two tabby cats that I got on my 7th birthday from my grandparents. They were your average barn cats, but just kittens at the time so not wild. They've been with me their whole lives and recently relocated to my off-campus apartment. They're 14 and still active which means hilarity typically ensues everyday.]
Anyway, Simba had decided to curl himself around future DH's head which made me stifle a laugh before I woke him. The conversation was as follows:
Me: "Hon... Hon wake up.."
DH: "mm..what? What? It's... what time? Wait... Why is there a cat in my face?"
Me: "Babe how about Disney World for our engagement? I did some planning out and it's really cheap. We could charge it and pay it off without interest for 6 months."
DH: "what are you talking about? Why is Simba on my face?"
Me: "Just say we can go to Disney World and I'll leave you alone."
DH: "Disney World? Sure.. whatever. Move the cat."

Yessssssss! :dance3: That was good enough for me. I wrote down my quote and saved it to address in the morning. Needless to say I had awesome dreams that night! Oh.. and I didn't move the cat :lmao:

Up next... booking... we laugh, we cry... we find a good deal!?

Still not readers? Ah well, let's continue on.

Current Music: I'll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan

Booking the trip!
After a fun filled evening the future DH and I woke the next morning to book our Disney trip. It was a Saturday :cool1: which meant a day off of school work and my on campus job. We came to the DIS and created an account so we might read reviews and other people's experiences to gain ideas. Anyway, we booked our trip for 5 nights, 4 day park-hopper tickets and round trip airfare. We'd be staying in the All-Star Music Resort. We placed it on the Disney Visa and were thrilled to be going! But then came the changes...

We read the dining reviews on DIS and discovered a few places to eat. Future DH (we'll call him DF from now on) was very excited for Tonga Toast and to try Teppan Edo for the open grill experience. I wanted to do Chef Mickey's breakfast and couldn't wait for Coral Reef since my sister had rave reviews. I glanced at the menus online and noticed that with the four we were already going to be spending over $300 on food. :scared1: I had heard of the Disney Dining Plan but it didn't seem right to us at the beginning. DF and I looked at it together and decided it would probably be most beneficial and we'd get more bang for our buck ;) I went to Disney's site to price it out and saw an ad staring me in the face... Buy 4, Get 3 Free. I was curious... who isn't when the word Free is involved? So I clicked.
"Oh.. my.. god...I need to crunch some numbers on this!!!"
"On what?"
"We could stay longer if we pay a little bit more."

I called up Disney and sat on the phone for nearly an hour discussing our options. We added the dining plan for sure and got our price adjustment then began looking into travel options and lodging so we could stay longer. 1/11 through 1/18 was open at the Pop Century. I had no experience here, but I decided why not. The cast member sent me over to travel and they found me a round trip flight that fit our schedule perfectly. I was sent back to the same first cast member for my total price. He told me we actually ended up saving money. :woohoo: Disney owed us $150 due to cheaper air fare even with the dining plan included. Someone sprinkled pixie dust on this family because we were being paid to stay LONGER in Disney. :wizard: My heart soared as I told DF who smiled and passively said "great". Ah well, he'll be excited later, right?

The final trip details were secured and as follows:
1/11/2009-1/18/2009, 7-nights and 8-days for 2 people
Pop! Century standard room
7-day MYW Tickets with Park Hopper
Round-trip Airfare from Minneapolis, MN with Disney Magical Express
DDP basic plan
For the great price of $2007.86

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: We can dance if we want to! We can leave our friends behind!

...Wait.. WAIT.. hold the phone. Leaving people behind? Our kitties! We needed to find someone and fast because we only had 62 days till vacation!

Ok, well let's continue on in hopes of attracting at least one reader.

Current Music: He's a Tramp - Lady and the Tramp

Taking care of the non-travelers
So the plan was put into motion but we had the dilemma of the kitties who would not be traveling with us. At 14 years old these two babies must have canned food fed to them every night. They have dry food available but it's a bit difficult for them to chew. They eat it (believe me!) but I always feel like they need more. Spoiled!
I began calling around looking for someone that would be in the area during our vacation. Most of my college buddies were home for the winter break and wouldn't be back till after the 18th for Spring semester. :guilty: I regretted calling my best friend Samantha who had originally intended on going with us but backed out due to lack of funds. I figured watching the kitties while we had the time of our lives would be the last thing she would want to do.

I called her up and pleaded but only a little bit. She was happy to help so long as a nice souvenir was in it for her. Well with the $200 gift card included in our booking package.. I thought that would easily be arranged! :worship: thank you to my best friend. She's a rockstar and will be a live-in to our apartment providing food and love for my spoiled little babies!

Someday I'll need to figure out what to get her though. Ah, dilemma for another time! Look forward to those ADRs next. Indecisive OCD planning has its downsides.

Current Music: Under the Sea - The Little Mermaid

ADRs and how they came to be
After getting set up with the DDP we decided to begin making ADRs. This was quite the hassle as I'm indecisive and changed them countless times. Initially we had the following for TS:
--Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic Package
--Cap'n Jack's
--Garden Grill
--Tony's Town Square
--Coral Reef
--California Grill

But after months of looking at Dining reviews on the DIS we switched around. This has been a huge ordeal [I seriously have altered most of them 3 times] and now that we are 19 days away from our vacation I am told by the DF that I am no longer allowed to touch the ADRs. :scared1: WHAT?! But perhaps it's a good thing. So our final ADR set-up is as follows:
D - Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic Package
D - Planet Hollywood
B - Kona Cafe
D - Teppan Edo
L - Tony's Town Square
D - Liberty Tree Tavern
B- Chef Mickey's
D - Coral Reef
D - Ohana's
Fingers crossed that DF actually forces me to keep this. I'll explain our itinerary in the next post!

Well I'm back from my holiday trips to the families. I've been using RideMax to make my itineraries for the day and I was wondering what everyone thought of it? I think it works out well but I'm wondering if I could get in more than it is telling me I can :confused3 I guess I'm thinking January won't be as busy as what they say. Anyway, your thoughts while I finish up the itinerary to post?

91 views and no comments? Lurkers come out come out where ever you are! :flower3: greetings and salutations are accepted and encouraged. A pipe in my bathroom is leaking so I'm a bit of a downer, but we'll post to keep my mind off of it while the plumber tells me to stick a bucket under it till morning. Have I ever mentioned I hate renting :headache: ? Alright, now onto business...
So the Disney Passporter is cracked open in front of me and I'm ready to rattle off our itinerary compliments ala my frantic ADR calling (which I am still banned from thanks to DF) and Ride Max which I have found to love. Except for the addiction I had by playing the "what if" game at 3am this morning :surfweb: So without further ado....

Day One, also known as Travel Day pt. 1
January 11th will mark our travel day to the world. We live in Duluth, MN which has an airport... but it's a pain to pay extra with the price of gas being so cheap. We will be driving to the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport and flying out from there. I must admit it's a case of the blind leading the blind as neither of us are experienced travelers by air. I have been on countless planes but always with my mother handling the details and me standing by whining about waiting in line. :rolleyes1 up to you to decide how recent those instances were.

Our flight is through AirTran at 3:46pm which is late, but it was cheap so I cannot complain. We will be leaving Duluth to make the 2.5 hour drive (less if you speed like I usually do) to my mother's house where I will leave my car and save on parking. Hooray! banana dance called on that relief. The flight will bring us down in Orlando around 8pm assuming there are no delays. But given Minnesota... one can never tell.

That first day is the EMH at Magic Kingdom and my DF and I were debating partaking in this since we have an extra park ticket day (it was free with the 7/4 deal). I have heard it's terribly crowded, though and it is the marathon weekend so this is TBA. Otherwise it may be a night shopping in DD or perhaps just a relax in the hotel. not likely on that one because I'm impatient to Disney up my life. We're debating also on the check-in online at the resort dealy they're apparently offering at this time? We shall see.

Some questions I have for the lurkers/readers:
1.) What's your opinion on EMH at Magic Kingdom? Would it be worth it to kill like, 2 hours, or a waste of time?
2.) Have you any experience when booking through Disney travel in regards to flights? Do I check in at the desk or is there a way to do it online?
3.) What's the whole 'check-in to your hotel online' deal? Any done it? Reviews?

Day two will be soon to come. The drip from the pipe into a bucket is drowned out by my typing!

I'm here! Sorry it took me so long! A good read so far! We will be there right after you leave! :goodvibes Please don't give up - keep writing, I'll read! :) We are just 4 hrs north of you in Thunder Bay, ON! :thumbsup2

3.) What's the whole 'check-in to your hotel online' deal? Any done it? Reviews?

Nobody has done it yet - doesn't start until January! I am sure there will be reviews from people going in the first part of the month! :)

Yay a reader! :cool1: we'll have some good times!

Day Two, Disney's Hollywood Studios
Our first Disney filled day will be at DHS. I have to say this was the most stressful day to plan out because Ridemax kept telling me I had too much I wanted to do in one day. :rotfl2: Isn't that always the case? Perhaps they underestimate my Disney-fanatic abilities. But, as it is, I have to cut out four attractions I hoped to visit. No worries, though, because we will be visiting those later in the week! Without further ado I bring you the DHS itinerary :wizard:

9:05am - Toy Story Mania (I will be hauling my little butt to this attraction. Bless those who get in my way.. or dare to, I shall say!)
9:37am - Snag a Rock 'n' Roller Coaster FASTPASS
9:40am - Free Time.. or shop time as I like to think of it as
10:15am - Beauty and the Beast (assuming the Times says it's offered)
10:46am - Free Time.. or more lovely shopping!
11:05am - Tower of Terror!!! (I'm still hesitant about this. I'm terrified of the idea of it but.. when it Rome, right? :scared1: look for awesome pictures of that experience in the TR to come)
11:35am - Rock 'n' Roller Coaster FASTPASS usage
11:59am - Magic of Disney Animation
1:20pm - Lights, Motors, Action! Showing (eating lunch during it which will be from some random CS place of our choosing)
2:06pm - Muppet Vision 3-D
2:45pm - Securing a spot for the Block Party Bash!
3:23pm - Great Movie Ride
4:00pm - Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic! Dinner Package
5:30pm - Indiana Jones Stunt Show
6:00pm - Lining up for Fantasmic!

Whew... as you can see it is jammed full of fun. I figure it'll work out though since most of our 'attractions' are shows involving sitting for lengthy periods of time. A slow introduction to Disney capped off with my favorite night show of all time.. Fantasmic!

We'll miss out on Sounds Dangerous, Star Tours, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and Journey into Narnia.. but these will be made up later in the trip. :yay: So do tell what you think. Too much? Too little? The touringplans.com rating for this day (January 12th) is a 5 so we can only hope it's that slow.

I'm off to sleep my dear reader and lurkers. I will be back tomorrow with my lovely remaining itinerary and the countdown to my trip. Almost to the single digits!

Some questions I have for the lurkers/readers:
1.) What's your opinion on EMH at Magic Kingdom? Would it be worth it to kill like, 2 hours, or a waste of time?

Hi! I'm here!! This is the first I've seen of your PTR! It's great. I can totally understand all the Minnesota references! (I live in the cities)
I have been pondering the same question because we arrive on a Monday and there are EMH that evening at MK too. I think we may get there earlier - we're driving!- so we might go to see the parade/fireworks and not worry too much about rides, since we'll be going back the next day. I have never been to EMH at MK though, I've heard it's pretty crowded. But if you have the extra ticket (if you aren't using any other time), you could just go for the atmosphere and maybe a snack?

hmm we may go for the atmosphere and a nice CS credit. Any suggestions? And sorry for the delay in the day three post but.. I've been a bit.. distracted..

pirates33.jpg

mm.. sorry..did I distract you, too? :lovestruc Ah I needed some images to liven this up anyway!

Ok.. next post will probably be day three. Maybe. I have a lot of distractions.

Alright let's get on with the show.

Day Three, Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney (1/13/09)
I am super excited to go to Animal Kingdom. This is my favorite park at WDW which confuses some people. I shall tell you why. Or, ok, let's show you...
_1768316_tiger4.jpg

I love these little babies :goodvibes I'd take one home if they wouldn't try to kill me in the process. But yes, I digress. Animal Kingdom was a busy day to plan out with the evening trip to DD. It is also the night of EMH but we will not be partaking because of an ADR at 7pm. The ridemax was able to arrange my day without screaming at me for trying to do too much this time. However, we are "on the fence" about two attractions which I will address as questions after the itinerary. Animal Kingdom is shaping up to look like this:

9:05am - Grab an Expedition Everest FASTPASS
9:15am - Primeval Whirl
9:27am - Dinosaur!
10:00am - Finding Nemo the Musical
10:49am - Use Expedition Everest FASTPASS
11:00am - Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ (CS credit)
11:30am - Flights of Wonder show (carrying lunch to it if we must)
12:02pm - Maharajah Jungle Trek
12:44pm - Grab a Kilimanjaro Safari FASTPASS
12:49pm - Discovery Island Trails
1:14pm - Camp Minnie-Mickey Autograph time!
2:00pm - Festival of the Lion King
2:39pm - Pangani Exploration Trail
3:05pm - Use the Kilimanjaro Safari FASTPASS
3:45pm - Scout out a spot for Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade!
4:28pm - It's Tough to be a Bug!
Take the bus to the resort to change for the potentially colder evening.
Take the bus to Downtown Disney for shopping and dinner!
7:00pm - ADR at Planet Hollywood to use our $15 off voucher

Another fun filled day! And more shopping which makes me happy!!! I love Downtown Disney for all of the great shops and scenery. I am sad that Pleasure Island closed now that I'm finally 21. :sad1:

The attractions we will be missing at Animal Kingdom due to being on the fence about them are: Kali River Rapids and Rafiki's Planet Watch
My questions are:
1.) Do you really get that wet on the river rapids? We are afraid of being soaked so have cut it from the plans.
2.) Rafiki's Planet Watch is new to me since I have last been. Would you recommend it for a young couple or is not that exciting?

Ok.. day four will be coming up after I grab some dinner and feed the babies [:simba: is hungry]

So I've been calling everyday to get into the Fantasmic! Package for Mama Melrose instead of the Hollywood and Vine but so far, no luck. I've also been attempting to upgrade to a preferred room from a standard at the POP... but also no luck. Ah well.. I'll keep trying because maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky :goodvibes

Aside from that, let's continue shall we? First of all I thought it would be nice to introduce you to my two babies. You hear so much about the little squirts so why not see them? These are my 14 year old kitties who don't look a day over 3. I swear it! You decide...
Nala.jpg
Simba-1.jpg

Nala is on the left, Simba is on the right. Simba was named for his appearance and Nala we got a week later.. it just fit. They are barn cats from my grandparents farm so no special breed. Same father.. different mothers.. but that makes them siblings! Nala has a continuous runny eye problem (as you can tell) but it's nothing a kleenex can't cure! It's not contagious.. not even a disease.. only a mere birth defect. And if you look closely at Simba who is conveniently holding up his paw.. he has 7 toes on each front foot. :scared1: the standard for cats is 4. We call them his snow shoes

Anyway let's continue on to Day Four, shall we?

Day Four, Epcot
We're arriving a touch late to this park because of a must-do ADR at the Kona Cafe. The DF wants tonga toast after reading all of the reviews on DIS. Our ADR is for 8:50am so we will be arriving at Epcot around 10am. Today is mainly a focus on Future World but we will be heading around the world to sight see. Ridemax has given me the following setup:
10:00am - Spaceship Earth
10:33am - Grab a Soarin' FASTPASS
10:37am - Seas with Nemo and Friends
10:52am - Turtle Talk with Crush
11:29am - Seas Aquariums
12:03pm - Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
12:50pm - Circle of Life
1:20pm - Use Soarin' FASTPASS
1:44pm - Club Cool... avoiding the Beverly
1:54pm - Grab a Mission: Space FASTPASS
1:56pm - Test Track
2:55pm - Use Mission: Space FASTPASS... riding the tame green one
3:28pm - Walk the world until....
5:30pm - Teppan Edo ADR
6:30pm - Resume walking/shopping/drinking the world
8:35pm - Secure a spot for Iluminations!

We will squeeze a CS after Soarin'. I'm hoping Mexico!! It's going to be a long day, but Future World is a day in and of itself! We may switch out the world touring for a nap :thumbsup2 before and/or after dinner and save Iluminations for our World day

Whew.. I'm beat from all this typing. Perhaps I will venture a shot at day five... we will see.

Who's going to party on down tonight? :cheer2: Ring in 2009 and celebrate one day closer to my trip!

Day Five, Magic Kingdom pt. 1
Our fifth day at Disney is exploding with ADRs, parades and fireworks. This is our "soak in the magic" day where we'll only be doing a couple of attractions. I like to spend two days in the kingdom, splitting the worlds as they say. I feel like I can handle the crowds better without losing my freakin' mind... if you know that I mean. :crowded: So today will be dedicated to catching the afternoon parade, the spectro magic parade, and Wishes of course. It'll be a day of romance :lovestruc ... or ok maybe that's only in my dreams. But dreams come true here, right? DF could possibly find the romantic bone in his body, right?! :rolleyes1 I digress. We will be focusing on Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square today. We will also be.. *gasp* sleeping in!! But not too much.

11:00am - Grab a Thunder Mountain FASTPASS
11:05am - Pirates of the Caribbean
11:35am - Jungle Cruise
12:28pm - Use Thunder Mountain FASTPASS
12:49pm - Shopping and/or freetime until...
2:45pm - Tony's Town Square ADR for Lunch (we will be arriving very early to be seated outside and watch the parade as we dine. I was told you can do this??)
3:30pm - Shopping and/or freetime... or autograph time
5:00pm - Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner
6:15pm - Haunted Mansion
6:45pm - Securing a spot for the Spectro Magic Parade
7:30pm - Hustling down to Main Street for Wishes!

Run, run, run! I feel we'll be doing a lot of that today. But no biggie. We can take it! We will not not not under any circumstances go to early EMH this day because I've heard it's crazy busy. I'm looking forward to this day less than Animal Kingdom, but more than the rest. I'm a sucker for the castle!

We'll do day six soon. I'm trying to earn my ears!

Oooh sorry I didn't get over here soon!! Hi I'm Jen...and I'll be at Pop the same time you are LOL!!!!!!!

I love how you and your future DH are going on a trip together...that is going to be great!! COngrats on the engagement!!!!!!!!!!!

I love your itineraries...I'm going to go back and finish up reading but had to let you know that this PTR has not failed...I'm loving it!!!!

Can't wait to hear more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS...I would get distracted by that picture too...he's my fave LOL(well after Michael Phelps LOL)
