How do you select EXACT rooms?

I have been playing with dates and prices, but I don't see where you can select the EXACT room that you want. I know that there must be a way because I have seen posts regarding rooms with "secret" windows and verandahs.
Can you do this on-line or do you have to call and talk to an actual human being?

It depends whom you are making your reservation through. Some online reservations sites such as Travelocity will list some of the available staterooms and have you select one in the category you want. Some sites do not allow you to select a room. Of course, you can always request a specific stateroom after making a reservation and should be able to get it as long as its available.

I usually make reservations through DU and have my choice of rooms picked out and I advise them of that when making the reservations.

We know what room we like..so we ask our TA to get us that room, and if it isn't available..we ask for a room within a certain range.

You can get assigned to a particular room if you book through DCL directly. Obviously the room must not already be booked by someone else and the ship must be empty enough that they haven't rolled over into GTY reservations only.

BTW, when you want a particular room, does anyone really save much money booking through a TA rather than just booking through DCL (excluding air-fare). I know when I used to check with TAs during the first several years DCL was in operation, the price was identical between DCL and any TA.

Is that when you CALL to make the reservation? Or can it be done ON-LINE?
Thanks everyone. :)

Yes, it's when you call. I've never booked online, just use the online stuff to get a quote, then call DCL directly.

I have alwasy found their reservationist to be very patient as I ask about several rooms, sometimes accross multiple sailing dates. I'll pull up the ship map that show where each room number is located and together, the reservationist and I find a room that's available that I will like.

Working through the DCL reservationist also lets you instantly confirm your cabin assignment because they are working in real-time with the live cabin asignment data. Once they enter the cabin number and hit the save button, it's yours (unless someone else is on the phone with another reservationist looking at the same cabin and they beat you to the save button).

MarcyIn Florida,

I think it depends upon how full the ship is for your cruise. I've never tried to change from a GTY to a specific cabin, but I don't know of any reason why you couldn't.

HOWEVER, once the boat gets a certain percent full, even DCL directly quits assigning specific cabins and only accepts GTY.

As an example, in April, we changed our Nov cruise to a Sept 25th cruise. We were able to pick a cabin, but it wasn't quite THE one I wanted. Since cabin availability can change (as cruisers change their plans) I called in May to see what was available. But by that time, I was informed that the boat was already filled to the point that they no longer assign cabins (only GTY). While I don't know at what point they do that, I'm guessing that it's somewhere between when 50-75% of capacity. We've been cruising with DCL since the first year the Magic was sailing, and I've notice how the ship keeps getting filled earlier and earlier.

Check out bestpricecruises.com
On that website, click the date you want, the # of people you want, and the category you want. Up will come a short list (usually 5-7) available cabins. Usually, the best or most preferred ones are listed. But, if not, at the bottom, you can select a cabin # you want. If its available, it will take you to a booking screen. If not, it'll take you to an error page. Once you know if the cabin you want is available, book with whomever you want.

If you have a GTY reservation, you can't choose your room. DCL will assign one to you and you may not know what it is until it gets close to your cruise date. I'm pretty sure we were within our 60 day window when we got our specific cabin assignment for our May cruise. The good news is that you may get upgraded bcs DCL is promising you that level cabin or better.

FWIW- we were assigned an awesome cabin on deck 6 when we had GTY status last time.

I wanted to book the same room we just stayed in for next year. When I looked on the internet every web site showed it not being available. I called DCL and it was available and I booked it. So it doesn't hurt to make that phone call.
