How do you say "Aunt"

You've got my curiosity up, now. How do you pronounce haunt? I pronouce haunt as rhyming with ont.

I say it like Ant, but DH always says it Aunt (like haunt) so sometimes I pick that up, too.
And, since DH is PR, my boys don't say Aunt at all, they/we say Titi.

It's awnt or awntie for me. Except for my Aint Laura--she used to sit on the porch and spit terbacca into a can. All her teeth were brown She lived in the Outer Banks, near where Andy Griffith lived--the old timers all talked like that.

DH says ant and my kids mostly say ant, except when referring to my sisters Awnt Patti, Awnt Barbara, and Awnt Laura (does not chew, but known to imbibe a little )

Yep i voted for haunt because i am in the "ont" or "haunt" camp, if i say ant it just doesnt sound right, i dotn know where i started saying it this way but its funny that my dbf tried to correct me on this and i was like sorry you say tomatoe i say tomato..lol

My wife is Southern so she says "ant". Whereas I say (h)aunt.
Of course we tease each other all the time about it.
I like to say to her, "You can step on an ant, but if you step on an aunt she will clobber you."
Our kids almost always say (h)aunt, unless they are talking about a specific aunt on my wife's side, then they might say ant. For some reason my SIL's don't like to be called (h)aunt. Go figure

I grew up pronouncing it as "Ain't" as a kid, but somewhere along the way I got above my raisin' and started pronouncing it is "ant"

Interestingly enough, it has always been my experience that my black friends would pronounce it similar to the "haunt" method, often adding the long "E" to make it auntie.

I says haunt...my whole family is from West Virginia except me...I was born in New York....so maybe that is why i am different from them...ha ha ...My Aunt Becky says she is gonna go trim the buuushes...ha ha ha ...love em all !!!

I have a very southern friend, and he says that when you're talking about what they are (my aunt) it's aunt like haunt. When it's there name (Aunt Bee) it's Ain't. Makes no sense. My mother used to talk about Ain't Darse (which I found out later was spelled D O R I S) and I would say, "Well, if it ain't Doris, who is it?" I was a rude kid.

I say "ant" and my mom does too, except when referring to certain aunts (and they are very old and very country) and they are "aints."

They also have names like "darse" for Doris - that made me LOL. There's Aint Ider (Ida) for example. There's also a cousin LarJane (Laura Jane)
