When you rent points, how do you handle the finances? Does the renter send you a check?

Half when the reservation is made, the other half when the renter received the written confirmation.. you can save mailing time by signing up for PalPay at www.paypal.com.....

I only 'rent' to close friends and family. I that is not very often. I bought points for us to use, not to rent. Look for a co-worker on neighbor.

I just want to rent the extra points I have gotten from 2005. From here on out the points are all mine :smooth: I just do not think we will use these before I have to loose them.

It's up to you to set your own payment policies. Some owners accept personal checks, others require certified checks or money orders, others accept PayPal if the renter pays the PayPal fee. A few owners have credit card merchant accounts and will accept credit cards.

It's your choice. There's no right way or wrong way to do it.

I just started trying to rent mine, we went to WDW last year twice and are interested in going somewhere else this year. There is post on the dis boards on rental contracts... some use them ..some don't. I think the main issue is trust. Make a reservation for a person when you feel comfortable enough that they won't back out. I had someone back out on me and it's not a good feeling. Exchange phone numbers and speak to the person first before making a ressies, depending on how your points are set up.. they maybe subject to a holding account. #1 thing try and rent to people who are Serious about renting. You could also transfer them to a member. That seems the best thing. DVC members seem trust worthy, at least thats the way it seems to me.

Good Luck to you. :sunny:

I bought my points to use also but we are all (The bride and our two adult lassies) going to Ireland this summer so I decided to rent my points. I rented some through a friend but I sold the bulk through the Disboards rent/sell site.
The friend sale was a cash deal and we used paypal for the disboards deal.
Paypal cost charges you a fee but it was well worth it to have the cash available without waiting for an out of town check etc.
I charge $10 a point as that is the going rate. If you want you could ask the buyer to pay the paypal fee but I did not choose to do so.
We plan to use our points in coming years but selling them this year has helped cover our airfare to Ireland so it was well worth the effort.

Thanks guys, I just do not know if I am going to rent them. We may try to do a last minute trip. It just seems like you have to factor to many things in to rent. I would hate for someone to back out on me.

I've rented points many times, and the experience has been wonderful. There are truly great, honest people that come here. If your points are not banked, why not look for another member that needs points transferred. The process is simple, and you do not have the concern whether they will back out of a reservation or not. I've done that many times; all you need is the members full name and their membership number. You make the call to MS and they will give you a transaction number. DONE! That's how easy it is. Good luck :cheer2:

Pam when you transfer points, do they hold them until you receive payment for them? How exactly does that work?

Each time I've rented points, I have received a PP payment first and then I immediately call MS, make the transfer and then I either call or email the transaction number back to the other member. I should say, we usually speak on the phone first, then I proceed. Like I said, my experience has always been positive. Good luck!
