I say it the Philly way, which is also the Baltimore way to say it. I've tried to train myself to say wahter, since it looks like it should be said that way, but I slip back to my Baltimore roots and say wooder almost always.
Since I believe those of us living in the West do not have an accent, and, of course, we pronounce everything correctly. The answer is wahter. just like it's spelled.
I pronounce it wah-ter. Now, the one I am really confused with is if you have a constant flow of water running through, say, your back yard, is that called a creek or a crick?
being from NYC...there's really no way to spell it how it actually sounds there. Waw-dah is about as close as I can type it My mom has lived in California for over 20 years and still pronounces it this way. I've been in CT for 27 years and it only slips out of my mouth that way sometimes....otherwise, I say it as wawter...kinda
