We've sailed three times and used three methods to get to the port and we prefer a limo service.
The first cruise we used transfers from the Grand Floridian via the DCL busses. I have to admit the busses are very nice and we enjoyed the trip. Only down side was that they determined the scheduled pick up time. We would have prefered to get to the port earlier. The transfer from the port back to the hotel was downright miserable. They used a Mears Ford passenger van and I found it was noisy, not very clean and cramped. We vowed not to use transfers provided by DCL ever again.
We drove ourselves with a rental car on the second sailing and found this suited us better than transfers. Having control over our arrival time at the port was nice. I don't recall exactly how much parking cost us.
We used Tiffany Towncar Service for our third cruise and found this method the most convenient. We've not used any other limo service therefore can't make a comparison between services. I found the driver friendly and the car to be in good condition. I'd use Tiffany Towncar again. This service is all about convenience. They pick you up where you want at the time you want. They load and unload the luggage. They'll even make a stop at a grocery store for snacks or drinks for the ride if you desire...they do all the work...tough to beat.
Barring unusual situations, we'll plan on using limo services for all our future transfers to the port.
we like to take a rental car and we always stay in titusville at the days inn. the cost via expedia is around $50 with lots of resturants and a Walmart. and we dont like to fly ever since 9/11
Oops - must be too early in the morning for me. We used Your Ride (but I hit the "other Limo service" button). Had great service and I'd certainly recommend them.
We drive, the first two times from Virginia (11 hours), this last time from Kentucky(13 hours). We arrive the day before, stay at the Days Inn in Cocco Beach, get to the terminal with plenty of time, drop off our bags & relax till we board.
We are really upset to find that towncar service is so EXPENSIVE!
We are a party of 12 and it will cost us around $ 200 plus tips just for a 45 minute ride from the airport to the Port. We could hardly believe our ears when we were told that tips is about 20% of the cost of the ride which adds the total to $ 240.
We are thinking to rent two vans but since we are from Canada, it costs us again a lot for insurnace.
We thought the dcl transfer was great. We had two little girls with us. We checked our bags at home and they showed up in our state room!!!! It was so easy and fast. I loved it.
We loved taking the DCL buses. It is great to hear the ohs and ahs as the ship comes into view for the first time. The only problem is that the buses are pretty cramped for my bad knee. I have surgery scheduled for Jan. and even though we go in March, riding that far with my knee bent so severe just won't work. We will be taking some town or limo service. Last March we used Tiffany and they were good but we did miss watching the DCL video and listening to the first time cruisers in their excitement. Kathy
we've taken a service like Mears and twice rented a car/van. Since it's a reasonable drive from the airport or resort area...i'd continue to rent. Maybe it's a control thing...or not wanting to put our destany in anothers hands.
I called a limo service in ORL to take DD and myself from the Dr. Phillips area(out by the new Millenia Mall) to downtown ORL to see the Nutcracker on the Saturday we return from our cruise. I thought that would be a great way to spice up a sad day, leaving the cruise and all. It's probably 8-10 miles at the most...they wanted $132.00. That was without tips.....
Needless to say...we'll take a cab or dh will take us(which is what we were trying to avoid in the first place, as we are not familiar with the dt area of ORL). I said to the girl..."well, let me think about it...I'll get back to you". NOT.....lol
First time we drove our car and parked. The next time it was the DCL transport ... loved it! We are taking the DCL transport again in January. The ride is great.
It gets me more hyped for the cruise. If that is at all possible!
