sorry if this is too silly, but i haven't flown in 29 years!! yikes!:scared1:

when you pack your luggage, how do you pack your "bathroom stuff" (liquids) will it explode all over your clothes b/c of the switch in pressure on the plane?
i was thinking i need to pack everything in ziplock bags....is that enough??

anything else i need to know, please feel free to clue me in! (i do know about the 3 oz liquid in carry ons)

thanks a ton!!

DW packs them in DOUBLE gallon zip lock bags... never been an issue. In fact, they have never exploded, but she is better safe than sorry.

It shouldn't explode but I do pack mine in zip lock bags. To be extra sure I put a piece of masking tape over the cap. Once checked in I save the masking tape to reuse for the trip home. Have never had any problems.

Well, I am buying Quart-size ziploc bags for DS's medicines (for carryon) anyway, so I just put toothpaste other liquids/ gel items in ziploc bags (each in its own, just in case). DW does all of her makeup this way too. Heck, for $1.50, we get 20 ziplocs, so we use them all over the place.

As for shampoo, I am fine for a few days with Disney's shampoo, conditioner and hand cream, so we don't pack any. When we got to California alter this month, we'll rely on Westin, Grand Californian and Comfort Inn for shampoo etc.

I pack with zip-locks too. Plus I keep different types seperated--face stuff in one bag, body in another, hair in a seperate one. That makes it much easier to find what I am looking for.

I've never had a problem with any thicker lotion type products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) however, anything liquid (mouthwash, liquid perfume or body sprays) does tend to do something from the air pressure......I don't think it really leaks but I always double Ziploc these items because for some reason they always are damp on our arrival so liquids definitely do something......maybe the liquid inside causes the plastic container to sweat or something....and the inside Ziploc is always slightly wet.

I have a toiletry bag that I just put between my clothes in my suitcase. Sometimes I just put everything in a gallon size ziplock baggie. Only once in the last 20 years did something leak and that was because of a defect in the shampoo bottle's top.

I use small bottles of everything to travel, and they go in a ziploc bag in my luggage. I've never had a problem with anything leaking. :)

duct tape works well for taping those small bottles- in fact I bring a roll with me when I travel- My husbands rolling duffel bag got a nice tear in at on our trip to WDW in January ( compliments of the airline I am sure)- came in handy- we probably would have had to buy a new piece of luggage for him otherwise

I put them in zip-lock bags - and then into a Tupperware-like container. This prevents the bottles from being compressed, and so they are less likely to leak.

Make sure containers of liquid are not completely full when you pack them. Place them in ziplocks. Also ziplock items that MUST remain dry. Chances are the yoohoo whose luggage rests on yours in the baggage hold did NOT ziplock their liquids...

I plan to put all of my clothing in those XXL Ziplock bags that are made to hold like 3 sleeping bags that way everything will be protected, along with the liquids in their own little freezer textured bags...for just in case! ;)

I dont pack shampoo. One its already in the bathroom, and TWO I'm bald.:rotfl2: :lmao: :happytv:
This DOES remind me of a trip we took to Cancun once. I bought like 8 bottles of Grenadina (sp?) because its SO cheap at Mexico, and it was (at the time) much harder to find and much more expensive back in the states. (now its not much more). It busted open (almost ALL of them) and it looked like one of those Mickey Waffles I seen on another thread.... or as my son would say... "fatality...".:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Funny now, but it wasnt at the time.

I usually take just enough shampoo and conditioner to last for my trip.. I will save mostly used large bottles of shampoo, etc, until I think there is just enough to last my trip.. then I pack those in a ziplock, and put that into a plastic grocery bag ( extra bags seem to come in handy.. ) usually I have just enough to last, and don't have to bring the bottles home so I have some extra room in my luggage for souvies!! :yay:

Do airlines accept a smallish check in bag? Like a large backpack size? I thought about putting all toiletries in that and checking it. Would that work? Thanks.

I have always double-ziplock-bagged items like shampoos and such. Most of the time nothing leaks, but this summer on our trip to WDW my shampoo leaked tons (luckily was all contained in the ziplock bags!). In the same suitcase, my DH's shampoo and DD's shampoo and liquid soap were fine. My BIL borrowed a suitcase from us last year and did NOT put his shampoo in a ziplock. It was a major mess for him to clean up.....had to wash all of his clothing....after the shampoo leaked everywhere. And my suitcase STILL smells like Head & Shoulders shampoo! :sad2: Better safe than sorry and double ziplock bag things, IMHO. :thumbsup2
