How do you organize your housecleaning chores?

I have tried different methods over the years and was wondering what works best for other people.

When I was younger I worked part time, but I was busy all day with the kids. Now that they're older, they don't require the all- day attention, but I'm working full time so I'm just not physically there to clean!

Do you do all the house on a certain day? Certain chores each day such as dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms, etc.? One room a day?

I would love some ideas from others about how to accomplish cleaning more efficiently...I hate wasting my days off on such drudgery!!!

Don't suggest a housecleaning service...would rather save the $ for WDW and other fun stuff!!!;)

The only thing I do is I clean on Thursdays and Fridays- my days off from work. I start in the lower level and do the family room, toy/computer room and bath. I also start the laundry :crazy2: on Thursday, and I grocery shop too. On Friday, it's more laundry, and I clean the main level (kitchen, LR and dining room) and the bedrooms upstairs. I don't know why I do this, because when I go back to work on Monday afternoons, the house looks like it was never cleaned at all. We recently moved into this house which is double the size of the old one, and boy, do I know it!!

A lot of people have really praised the program suggested by

www.flylady.net

She helps you prioritize, and separate chores to different days, etc., so it doesn't become so overwhelming.

We just moved into a new house... still unpacking boxes, and don't even have our kitchen completed - so I'm not ready to start her plan, yet, but I think I will give it a try "once I have a sink to shine!"

Good Luck!

I will do everything in one day, but take almost all day to do it. :teeth:
For example:
After getting DH off to work, put dishes away from dinner and eat breakfast
Watch a little tv
Dust
Computer time
Vacuum
and so on until everything is done.
I am a stay at home wife, no children so I tend to clean the house Sun. Tues. Thurs.

I was taught this by a co worker, we would work overnights in a group home over holidays to allow the regular night staff time with their families during the light of day and the job is to clean the house. I asked how she stayed awake all night and she said that she made a challange for herself to clean during TV commercials to see how fast she could get done with all the checklist. I do that now sometimes but don't do it overnight, you will be asleep by 4 AM!!

I try to do a little each day, with most of the chores being done on Monday (the real good cleanings!)

We don't! LOL! It's whenever the cleaning mood hits us that we clean :)

I work 930-5 M, Tu, Th & F
On Wed I work 1230-8 so every other Wed morn is grocery shopping, every other Wed morn is cleaning house
I rotate the jobs I need to do in the house. Laundry is done twice a wk, grass mowed every wk-10days.
I figure I work fulltime outside the home just like DH. If he wants something cleaner he can help out!

the only way I get anything done is to do certain things on certain days (dust on mondays, vacuum on tuesdays, bathrooms on wednesdays, kitchen on thursdays, floors on saturdays).

I have been married for 26 years and I have to say this is the one area that gets me down the most. Several years ago we started what we call "Massive House Cleaning" It takes about 2 hours and everyone in expected to help at the sametime. I use to do it all mysef, but I work full-time plus travel and I really felt it wasn't just my job to keep the house work done. Its really a simple idea. Everyone has the same job that they do everyweek. The key is that everyone has to work at the same time so nobody can slide. We pick a time when everyone is home and just get it done. DH does kitchen and bathroom, DS does glass and trash and sweeper, I do family room, living room, dining room and our bed room. DD picks-ups and helps change the beds. Kids also do their own rooms. My house may not be the cleanest on the block, but I no longer feel resentful and everyone knows what is expected of them so there isn't the fighting there use to be.

Let's see.....

Dissing first, then whatever time I have leftover.......

I clean my house every saturday. (sometimes on Friday night if I have plans for saturday mornign)

It can take anywhere from 3 ot 5 hours...depending on how much I do (polish? floors? windows?)

laundry is a sunday afternoon activity.

Bathroom mirrors and sinktops on Mondays. Nothing on Tuesdays. Toilets and trash on Wednesdays. Vacuum and dust second floor on Thursdays. Kitchen on Fridays. Vacuum and dust first floor on Saturdays along with (on a rotating basis) showers, laundry room, mop floors, or vacuum and dust the lower level. Laundry gets done on Saturdays also. On Sundays I file.

I have the kitchen, DD age 10 the Living Room, DH the Dining Room and DD age 6 the hallway and 1/2 bath.

It's our "jobs" to be sure they are "picked up" every night before bed. If someone leaves something of theirs in your "room", you politely remind them that it has to be put away. It's made it kind of fun in that the kids love to catch mom or dad with something in their rooms! ha ha! Plus, it's kind of a competition or pride thing with everyone wanting to show off how good "their" room looks.

As for actual cleaning, we've joked that we need to plan a party at our house once a month. Seems like it only gets really cleaned if we're having guests! LOL!!

Glad to know we've got a houseful coming in 2 weeks for dance recitals..... It was getting kind of dirty. ha ha!!

I LOVE a clean house, and I really don't spend a ton of time doing it.

My secret is keeping on top of it. It takes much less time to make sure things are picked up, sorted and put away each night rather than letting it pile up.

For the cleaning part: I try to start on Thursday usually doing my bathrooms. Saturday I dust and vacumn and change sheets on beds.

Doing small odd jobs during the week. I am a morning person, I get up at 5 a.m., done getting ready by 5:30 a.m. and have an hour before I get the kids up for school. That hour I get so much done each day. Dishes, load the washer, put away anything that needs to be, do the odd jobs - wash mirrors, clean countertops, that kind of thing.

Plus I LOVE to cook....so often as things are in the oven or simmering I run around and clean.

Kind of weird aren't I????;)
