How do you know you have arrived??

standing at the door of the plane when the first blast of hot air hits you, after being cooped up in air conditioning for 9 and a half hours, it always feels like heaven

yeah same for me, that blast of heat when you exit the plane is always the best thing ever!!

There are a few the monorail is probably the first, followed by the heat/smell as you walk out across to the rental car collection place. Then we always tune the car radio to 'Magic FM' (94.9) for the drive to the hotel (I listen online for a 'quick fix' occasionally but it isn't quite the same) as soon as we have done that and navigated our way out of the airport I know I am 'home' :flower:

I know it sounds really silly, but the monorail announcements on the way to MK really make me realise that we're really here. This is when I start to get all goosepipply and excited and start craning to see when we'll get there.... I love the "please stand clear of the doors" and the "on the sand of bay lake"? is that right!?????

LOL Deb ;)

I am going with the hot air wall here :)

for me it is driving into disney
The first sign of the purple welcome gates
Yes i am home again

..how about the first argument with the wife after a long and tiring flight...bearing in mind we still have to get our bags , get away from the Airport, get to the villa, unpack and go to Publix - all with a very tired little boy in tow..sorry we are on Holiday stress free, forgot for a minute there :)

Maybe I should just stick to my "feeling the heat as I leave the plane" suggestion?

Long tiring flight?

cannot be flying the same airline or seats as me :sunny: :sunny:

Maybe I should say 'long tiring day'?
Getting up early at 04:30 - walkling round the Airport for a few hours pushing a stroller around, my young boy is Autistic and whilst perfectly mobile and active - likes to be pushed around!
Keeping him occupied on a long flight, generally changing children's DVDs every so often and trying not to throw myself off the plane..good job we have such a good time when we get there :)

04:30? OUCH! :guilty:

that is early. we took two years ago some friends of ours and their autistic daughter, but styed down at the Hilton, so did not get up until 8am (they had done twilight check in) this was the days of the sattelite departures and just kept her busy until the last minute and then went to the sattelite terminal.
she was fine. loved WDW but still did not like the flights.

Well Taxi arrives at 05:30 and we get to Manchester about 06:45, flight is at 10:25 - we are upgrading to PE next year, but usually we get a bulkhead seat because of Joshua's special needs - just like to get there early and get settled, make sure we get our seats etc

Anyone will tell you the traffic down the M61/M60 is very bad even early in the morning, I work in Cheadle so I know - setting off at 07:00 for example you run the risk of traffic hold ups which is the last thing we need.
With Joshua's needs we do more planning for the build up to the holiday than we do when we get out to Florida.

We go down to gatwick as one thing about manchester (apart from the Man ure fans of course :rotfl: ) I hate is the fact that there is no Clubhouse and the lounges available all have child age restrictions on them :guilty:

We leave home next sat at 03:30to arrive lgw at 08:15 t5o fly at 11:15, going up the night before isn't an option this year as we all have to work the evning before, I finish 17:30, mum at 19:00 and Ruth at 20:30!

Is there not a flight you could take? that must be absolute hell!

unfortunately being in the back of beyond, ie Cornwall there are No regional flights that work! Plymouth flies to LGW but thats an hours drive from us (plus a 45 min check in) and the last flight of the evening leaves just as Ruth leaves work! its just something we get used to down here.

Knowing British Rail, I suppose there are no trains at that time either :confused3

we looked at BR from the midlands and it would take five hours to get to gatwick with a change at Oxford! as opposed to a three hour road journey.

Its probably hard to believe but the nearest train station is about an hours drive too so as theres 6 of us it would mean 2 cars going to be left at the station for a fortnight! cheaper to get my company chauffeur to drive us at £290 return!

We find the day we fly out and back very tiring - we never have any regrets because we have such a good time - but it is hard work.

Not just for us with Joshua but for everyone, he is very well behaved on the plane.
He is just unable to talk, other than that he is a perfectly happy/bonny lad - and very active.

I get uncomfortable after a long day and an 8 hour flight, so it must be much worse for him - at least he has a great holiday (that's the main thing).
Just to see his face light up so many times and to see him having such a good time is worth it.
