How do you know if your guide is any good?

It seems like some people have a good relationship w/their guide? Our original guide never called us once & left the company after a few years. Our 2nd guide never contacted us. Our current guide took us over on our last DCL cruise when we told him about our situation w/our 1st guide (never knew we had a 2nd assigned to us). This guy promised me on the boat to send me some stuff and called me at home promising to send me some stuff--3 weeks later & nothing has arrived.

We told him to look out for an add on for us? How do I know if he's actually doing this for us? Another post on these boards said that their guide took a credit card number from them so they could jump at the 1st add on w/ the correct use year.

What are other people's relationships w/ their guides like?

I'm sorry that you had problems with past Guides. I tell everyone that communication is a two way street. I would suggest you pick up the phone today and call your new Guide, reintroduce yourself and remind him of what you discussed on the cruise.

I don't have a lot of communication with our Guide but when we need to, we have it. We have stopped to see her at WDW when we've been there (it was a lot easier at the BWV than it will be for us at SSR) and have called her when we wanted something. She has called us a couple of times and has left us "welcome home" messages on our trips.

Good luck with the change.

I dont think I have ever spoken to my guide beyond my original purchase....Imean they really dont provide any real service beyond the initial purchase do they???

Guides are salespeople.

Is your Guide any good? That would be answered simply by you determining whether he/she responds to your needs in the sales realm.

I've never received an unsolicited call from my Guide, but I know where to find him when I need him. Any other questions I may have are directed to Member Services.

Yes, if you want an add-on, your guide will need to take a credit card number...that way they can nab the points when they become available.

Our guide called us this morning, they are changing the system to an actual waitlist, so if your guide has not called you...you need to call them to get on that waitlist.

There are some really good guides out there (everyone says Byron is wonderful, and we have Gib McCain...not much has been posted about him, but he is great), if you are not happy with yours, see if you can switch to one that people have spoken highly about. Part of the fun about buying via Disney is dealing with the guides...I talk my poor guides ears off when he calls...but, he is just so much fun!!!

If you are looking for reliability and immediate call backs, call Judy Kaufman. She is absolutely outstanding. She is not only friendly, but does what she says she promises. Whenever she says she will send me something, it is always in the mail at the end of the week. I would call her and recommend her to anyone in a minute. Here's her number: 1-800-827-7163.

Good luck! If you see this Judy, hi! We had an awesome first trip home at the BCV's in January!!! We're going on our first cruise on the Wonder in April, can't wait!:D

I agree that communication is a two-way street. We always make sure we stop in at the Sales Center to say hi to our guide, Ron Brumbaugh. We have bought 2 contracts and two add-ons thru him. When I called a couple weeks ago for another add-on, we had it almost immediately, so I am happy with him. He is really good at follow-up, which is what you want in a guide who is good at his job. Call your guide and say hi, tell him what you want, and see if he follows thru. That will be when you will see if he is any good or not--after all, on a cruise, it's easy to lose messages and stuff.

We also had Gib McCain for our guide. We found him to be very personable & he is from NC & parents still live here so we talked about that some. We took the tour with him last fall, but didn't purchase at that time. He was not pushy at all, when we left his office last fall, he gave us some meal vouchers, sent us home with our info & said to call him if we had any questions. I called him a month or so ago & talked his ears off with questions, called him back a couple more times. I called him on a Sat. & told him to sign us up & he told me to wait, he said that DVC was coming out with new incentives on Monday & to call him back that Monday afternoon, well as it turns out, he called me back Monday morning. He was very attentive & never pushed us into buying more points than we could afford at this time. He helped us in deciding which use year would be best for us, etc. I have not heard from him since, but have no reason to. Good Luck!

My guide is Byron! How do I know he's great? He calls back promptly, he took my CC# for my add ons - 45 BCV in April, 150BCV in June - He called me periodically to let me know that he was still on the look out for my add on. When I call, he asks if there's anything I need for my upcoming trip. and yes, he knows all of my trips coming up. Also, do a search for add ons and see who's got the most write ups from the disboards... I know Byron got mine and another diser a BWV the same day. So he'd be my recommendation. (I think some guides work harder than others and that's why after my 150pt add on , I sent Byron a basket of goodies for his extra effort) Good luck in your choice! If it's Byron say hi from Liz on Cape Cod!~

My guide is Diane Henry. She is really terific. She actually asked if I wanted to by called for promos or not. I speak to her a few times a year and she is really on top of checking add on info.

I guess like others said, if you call and they are not response than they aren't a good guide. Otherwise. I am sure each guide has 1000's of families and doesn't just routinely call to say hi unless you've built a relationship

We make a point of trying to meet in person with Mary Mannix every time we're down. When we first bought, she helped us complete the entire process in about three hours. She's great!

Mary usually leaves a message for us in our room when we're down, or if we don't get a chance to connect in person (we have shown up on her day off), she sends us a note when we're home saying she's sorry she missed us and hopes to see us next time. We just closed on our add-on with her and everything ran smoothly. My sister may be buying from her before the year is over becaus of our recommendation.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will try again w/ this new guide & then try to switch to one of the guides suggested.

Other than possibly add ons, it's unlikely you'll need a guide once you're a member. Although DVC does use them some in education and complaint management. I'm actually surprised there are not more horror stories when people buy resale.
