How do you have left over credits?

We have never used the DDP before and after totalling up our last 2 trips it just seems to make more money sense to me. On our trip we have me, DH and 2 kids. One is a boy who is now 8 but he can eat. We don't run from one ADR to another but we do eat. We always have one counter service meal a day, usually for lunch and then we try and do a fun table service meal for dinner or a breakfast like chef mickey. My kids have to have a snack during the day because of all the walking they start to run out of energy.
Anyway, I just hear about how much people don't use their credits. It does not seem like a lot of credits to me. We are not big people, we just stay in the park from open to close because we only do this about every yr and half. Am I missing somthing. :confused3

For us the portions are huge and we would opt to split CS meals rather than order two CS meals and waste half.

Our Days were mostly:

Morning - Breakfast in the Villa - Cereal or Waffles

Lunch - CS Meal - for the first few days we'd each order something, but we could never finish that much food at one sitting. After a few days we'd start to split meals. Desserts (here) were generally not that good, and just over the top for us for lunch. We started taking them to go, but found that we were never hungry for them or wanted to eat what we took with us.

Supper - TS Meal - Appetizers (times 5), Entrees (5) and Desserts (5) Oh my FOOD!!! We'd eat what we could, wasted the rest and still left feeling overly stuffed. (generally when the group of us goes out we'll order an appetizer or MAYBE two, and occasionally a dessert. This style of eating was over the top for us and we did it for two weeks straight.

We'd never really get hungry between meals, so snack credits started piling up along with CS credits. If anyone wanted a snack in the middle of the day we'd get one and split it up among those who could take another bite.

Often too, we'd like popcorn for a snack, but we liked the buckets for ease of transportation around the parks. Those didn't count as a snack credit, so we had to pay OOP for those and then we'd have a snack credit left over.

Our party was DH, Me, our sons (4) and (2), my Mom, my Dad, and my Sister. We were there for 13 nights so had 65 adult TS and CS credits to use as well as 13 child TS and CS credits to use. We had a total of 78 snack credits to use over the course of our trip.

I guess it all depends on how you eat. We pretty much only eat two meals each day and maybe a small snack in between, like a Dole Whip or an ice cream bar.

Since we did a few signature dining experiences our problem was using up the CS and snack credits.

One night we had appetizers at the WL lounge for dinner. Not covered under the plan. That's one credit not used x2 people.

Sometimes we would have a "snack" (like Figaro Fries) and that was enough for a meal for us! Then we didn't want a full meal for a long time. So we used a snack for brunch and our two TS for dinner. Now there were extra CS credits.

About half way through our trip we realized we would really have to focus on using those credits or go home without using them. Too much stress for me on vacation! No more DDP for me, which is a really easy decision to make for me between the stress and the loss of tip and appetizer.

DH and I went in June of '06 on the old DDP. We never had problems with extra credits. (And we are not big people.) This is before we were DVC, so we didn't have a means to make breakfast in our rooms. We would share a CS for breakfast, share a CS for lunch, then each use a TS for dinner. We usually used snack credits on drinks because it was hot out. Didn't have a single extra credit left.

We'll be trying the new DDP in July!

My husband and I did the Free DDP in '05 and '06 and my DD(26) and I were there last Sept.('07) for free dining. And as the previous poster suggested we used every credit. We sometimes split a CS breakfast and lunch and used our own TS for dinner. We ate well, never full. We used our snack credits for fruit and those wonderful sundaes at POP! Since our arrival the first day was late, we had 1 TS and 1CS left on the day we departed.....we had breakfast at Cape May and later went to DTN disney and got sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich to take to the airport. The looks from the passengers when we opened those great sandwiches :cool1: I guess even before the new dining plans we always ate not only CS but TS meals as well. When we went several years ago with about 10 family members we would get 1 of every appetizer so we could taste. That was the fun part, with younger kids(even my DS now at 24 is still very picky) letting them get something different without the "you had better eat all of it" made it all of a more enjoyable vacation for all of us
Going back again this Sept. again with free dining (thanks to bounceback!!) and will probably pay OOP for several apetizers.....unless we upgrade to the deluxe........heck it is vacation! :yay:
