Could you handle being in a position where lots of people will make fun of you, and be sharply attacked by critics? How about if people talk about you non stop behind your back?

People in the public eye are always being attacked by critics. Some will say incredibly rude and insensitive things about them. How do they handle being attacked so harshly?

How do you handle it when you are attacked by critics?

I'm perfect, so I don't have many critics. (None who are right, anyway) ;)

If I were in the public eye, however, I'd expect it. Just comes with the territory.

I'm perfect too! What a small world!! (after all) :goodvibes

:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Criticism is more often than not an opportunity to learn.

That being said, since I already know everything, there is no need to criticize me. :teeth:

Nonsense. George W. Bush is perfect, and he still has lots of critics.

Seriously folks, this is a sincere question. The things that are said about people now days is so harsh.

What if you were the mayor of New Orleans. So many people are saying harsh things, and while he has made mistakes, does he deserve the terrible things people are saying? How does he feel when he reads these things?

Do you think public people cry and get terribly upset when they read the terribly harsh things said by their critics?

Keep stirring... the pot's sure to boil sometime.

I can't say how Mayor Nagin feels; you'd have to ask him directly. But if he cannot handle the criticism then he shouldn't have run for public office. As others have said, harsh criticism comes with th e territory. You either develop a thick skin or you crumble.

Extremely doubtful. They learn to accept it as a fact of life. In personal life, you learn to listen to your critics, accept what is constructive and toss the rest aside. If you are too sensitive about criticism, then you don't involve yourself in public life or put yourself up for public scrutiny.

If you choose to put yourself out there in the public eye, you have to expect to get hit with criticism.

It might not be fair, but who said life is fair?

Well, for me, I don't handle any of it well. I am very careful what I say to others and try to put myself in their place with my answers. It's been a problem for me all my life. :confused3 I have to add I've read some comments here on the DIS that I have thought were over the top. Kind of like taking a fire hose to a match. As far as those in the public eye, I think they should understand it will happen-comes with the territory.

I would sick my "poppa poodle" on them. :teeth:

Ok-since I am not in a playful mood today, I will post seriously and honestly. When people say bad things about me, it hurts my feelings. Depending on what they said, I either shrug it off and move on or I think about it for hours and try to figure out how to handle it.
If I were in the public eye and people constantly said things about me I think I would develop a thick skin and let it roll right off me. You have to expect people to talk behind your back in that business...in RL too.

And George Bush is not perfect. I hope that was a joke. It was a good one too-gave me a chuckle.

I find that people who are attacked by critics usually deserve it.
