I am wanting to take a relaxing on the beach vacation and would like to go to Vero. That said I know that we will say that we are so close to WDW how can we not stop for a few days. As much as I love going I want to avoid it, because once we are there we go non stop! So what do you do?

If it is your 1st time at VB, you will enjoy the relaxing, ocean view,Disney touches, etc. If you have kids with you, they will love the pool. You actually don't even have to leave the resort(on-site restraunts)if you choose not to. VB is a "non-commando" type DVC resort to be at, that will not be as expensive as going to the parks.
VB is about an hour and half from Orlando's airport if you fly in.
Or you can do a combo trip and hit WDW first for a couple days....then wind down at VB.:)

I don't think that I could ever go to VB without going to WDW, too, especially since we always fly down and I cannot "relax" for more than three days at VB. ;)

We are thinking about doing this as well. How hard is it to get into Vero at the 7 month mark during July and/or August? We'd probably be looking for a studio.

Thanks,

Why not try going to WDW and not going to the parks? Sound crazy?
Last year we were there for 10 days and only went to a park twice. there are soo many other Magical things to do, that do not cost alot -all Disney related. Just staying at the DVC resorts is magical enough. Although, if I am in the neighborhood, I always have to go to MK.

As a rule, though I don't go Commando w/ the kids. I have only done a non-stop action packed WDW trip when it was only DH & me w/out kids.

I don't recall if you said how long your stay was going to be, but you can have a day or 3 at the World and then 3 or 4 relaxing fun-in-the sun days at Vero. Or fly to Melbourne or even West Palm Beach (alittle further) if you want to avoid the temtation.

We consider the Vero Resort an attraction all unto itself. We were there over Labor Day for 3 days and then went up to Daytona Beach for 4 more days before driving back home. Disneyworld was not part of this "beach" vacation. We had a wonderful time and did not give any thought about going over to the "World" while we were in Florida. We have been quite lucky to spend several trips there lately because our children are not in school yet. We were there in late Jan.'03 for 10 nights at Vistana Village in a 2 bedroom and in Oct.'02 for 10 nights in a studio at OKW.

When we go to Vero we usually go for as long as we can, about 6 or 7 nights. Vero is by far my favorite DVC resort (we also own at OKW). Even if it is a Vero trip, we still do WDW for a few nights before or after our trip. I knew Vero was a special place the time I was laying by the pool on check out day before heading to WDW and I was actually DEPRESSED that I was leaving Vero and going to WDW!!! When at Vero I don't miss WDW at all. The resort is full of Disney magic (maybe even more than WDW, especially the Cast Members. They are the best!)

Like others have said, do a couple of nights at WDW and the rest of your trip at Vero and see what you think. You might end up like me and find that you like Vero more than WDW!!!

donald@home,

We agree 100% with you. And wait until they see the view from the Beach Cottages!!We now have 200 pts at VB, just to get the 11 month window for the Beach Cottages.OKW is our favorite on WDW property, but VB is in a class by itself also.:D

My problem is "How do you go to WDW and not go to Vero?" :smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

The pixie dust is strong at Vero Beach. We went for a relaxing beach vacation with Disney quality and left as DVC members. Of course, we believe in magic!

How do you resist WDW? Go to Vero only when you are totally exhausted from the "rat race". Oops, just quoted Carousel of Progress, maybe it can't be done.:p

We have this problem every summer. Do we or don't we go to WDW? We'll I compromise with the DH. I get a full week at WDW and he gets his full week at VERO. We tried VERO and then WDW in June 2000 and it didn't work, we were so relax that we didn't do anything at the parks the second week. It was so bad we had to go back in December 2000 so I could get my park fix. :)

This past summer we had 3 inn rooms (13 people in all). We did WDW by ourselves the first week and hooked up with the other 9 at VERO for the second week. What a blast. I haven't enjoyed the past 3 trips near as much. Having a group of people you know there is alot more fun. We beached in the mornings and pooled in the afternoon/evenings. We also too our own bachi ball set and had a mini tournament amongst ourselves. The gals all shopped one day at the outlets about 40 minutes away and the guys golfed. DH was coming off some practice rounds with really good scores. That day on the course with inexperience golfers ruined him for the rest of the summer :) Oh well, there is always next summer, hopefully the guys will practice as we'll be there with the group again only this time in a BEACH COTTAGE.

We were never able to get the staff to put in a good word for local restaurants.... so I'll help you out here. If you are interested in ambience and don't mind $$$ go to the Ocean Grill. Fantastic food and the staff was great. For a little less ambience and money go to Captain Hiram's. We'll be doing both again next summer.

Very easily!! We do it every year the week after Easter. It's wonderful to just chill out by the ocean for awhile. We usually stay for 5 or 6 days. And yes, normally I am very much a Type A person, which is one of the reasons I love it!

WE do both..........WDW then VB to recuperate.

This year we did VWL...then VB....then OKW........It was wonderful!!

WE were waitlisted at the 7 month window for eiither of our 2 week stay at VB and unfortunately did not get in. We did, however, get a great cash ressie for the weekend....

We did this very thing this summer. However, we visited US/IOA for three nights and then headed to VB for a week. We took my brother, DW, and DS, we all loved it. We are booking the last week of May '03 for 7 nights and no themeparks unless you count Silver Springs in Ocala on the way down.

I admit it felt wierd on the way down especially when I started seeing all the Disney signs on the Turnpike but honestly we had a ball. I guess the fact I knew I would be returning to Disney this Dec held me over.

You know you'll be going back to Disney in the future. Having a Beach vacation with a Disney theme works out wonderfully.
