How do you get your immunization record when you are 40?

My community college has asked me to give them my immunization record and I lost it. I moved a lot this last year (across the country and back) and I have no idea where it could be. The file cabinet where I had important papers is back in Oregon with my soon 2b x-husband. I don't even know if it would be in there anyway.

Can the DR do a blood test or something to show what antibodies I have? I don't know what to do.

I know when I went to work for a hospital they were able to tell that I needed a booster for the MMR...so maybe

When I was pregnant, the blood work revealed that I needed to be revaccinated for something or other (can't remember which one) so possibly??

Can you call your doctor and see if he or she has a record of it? If so, they should be able to photocopy it and send it to you and that should be good enough!

Another place to try is the high school you went to. They should still have your records somewhere, and your immunization record should be with it.

ETA Blood work can be done. They will do titers, basically seeing if you have immunity to the different diseases. We occasionally do this at my practice with babies that have been adopted from other countries whose immunization status is questionable.

Don't worry-- like WDWmom2 said, you can get Titers to see if you are immune to the diseases. I have the same problem. I'm 33, and starting nursing school. I had to track down my old doctor (the practice I went to disbanded, and they all went their separate ways), and he had to put in a search for my files in storage--- luckily they found them. But, if not, the doctor I go to now was just going to draw blood and check the titers.

when I went back to school, all my "kid" records had been forwarded to my now dr's office. I am 45 and was able to get everything I needed for school.

I would just have my titers done again. It's good to know what you need anyway.

Yep, go to your doc and explain. They'll order the blood work for titers and tell you what needs updating.

I had to do it last year when I started working at the hospital and couldn't find my records. I know I had all of them when I was younger, but had to get a MMR. I also got the chicken pox immunization. The health nurse didn't believe me that I never had them until she read my lab results!!!

Can you sign a waiver at the school stating you don't believe in vaccinations? I know that is not the case, but it might be a way around the problem. My dd had one of her shots 4 days outside of the acceptable window for that shot. I had to either get her the shot over again or sign a waiver stating we didnt believe in them do to religious reasons. I went with the waiver rather then expose her to something she didnt need (once was enough!). The told me that if there was ever an outbreak I would be asked to keep her home.

You know, when I read this, it reminded me that when I was in the hospital after the birth of my first daughter, a nurse came in a gave me a shot. She said I was missing oh, german measles immunization or something. I forgot all about that! They must have gotten the info from bloodwork.

I do have DR's appt coming up. I will remember to ask for titers done (Is that pronounced the way it looks? )

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

It is pronounced TIE-ters. If you pronounce it the other way the doc will:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: !!!!!

Your local health department might have it on record also. I had to have my records pulled not to long ago to show that I'm allergic and can't have any of those shots. I also had the tieters test done.
