How do you get to Magic Kingdom with your own scooter when not staying on property?

This sounds like a nighmare to me. But I want to see if I have this right. We will be using a car to get to the park.

You need to go the transportation hub. Then, you need to use an elevator (whereever that is) to get to the monorail platform for Magic Kingdom. Then, somehow with everyone trying to get on the monorail you have to somehow get the scooter in there. Do I have this right?

Can someone give me a clue where this elevator is located? What's the largest size scooter that can fit in a monorail? Do you have to be an expert scooter driver to manuever the scooter in and out of the monorail car? Help!

I'm petrified before we even get there.

My father-in-law used a scooter when we went a couple of years ago and even though we stayed on-site he rode with BIL and SIL in their truck. He went up the ramp that leads to the platform and then on the portable ramp to get into the monorail car. Or you can take the ferry over.

The monorail stations at the TTC and MK do not have any elevators; they were built prior to ADA and there is no logical way that elebvators can be added to tose stations without shutting down the system for at least several weeks. The only monorail station (not at a Resort) with an elevator is the load side at Epcot.

All you need to do is go up the ramp and you will be shown where to wait. When the train comes in the CM on the platform will put down a shallow ramp betwen the platform and the car and you can easily get on. Each train can handle four to six wheelchairs and/or ECVs.

When you get to your destination someone will put down a ramp so you can exit. Note that you probably will have to back out, but if you went in straight you just back out straight. And the ramps can handle any normal rental ECV.

For the MK the normal (express) monorail stops only at the TTC and the MK. The Resort (local) monorail stops at TTC-Poly-GF-MK-Cont-TTC and when you board you have to tell the CM where you will be getting off.

You can also take the Ferry Boat between TTC and MK.

For the other three parks disabled parking is very close to the Park entrance. Note that you do need a vehicle with either disabled plates or a disabled hang tag to avoid getting a $250 ticket from Orange County Sheriff's Office, who patrol the lots.

I'm glad I had this wrong. I feel a little better, now. I think the Ferry may be a good idea; it's more their speed. These are older people and we won't be together before we see each other in the parks.

The ferry is definitely easier;no steep ramps, easy roll on, roll off all in the same direction;and en enjoyable ride, to boot. Note that there is a bit of a walk to the TTC from the disabled parking lot. As far as I know, your Canadian parking permit/tag shouldbe fine.

If you look in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, one of the posts in that thread is about transportation. It includes pictures of the monorail and also a lot of information about using the different transportation options with a wheelchair or ECV.
You Canadian parking permit will be fine in the US. There are agreements between the US and Canada to honor each others permits.

When parking at Epcot, plan to get there early. We found all the handicap spots full by late morning and while they parked us as close as possible, it was a long haul up to the entrance. One thing to consider if going to Epcot World Showcase for dining: The handicap spots at the Studios are VERY close to the boat transportation to World Showcase, and it is a very nice ride past the Boardwalk area. That way you don't have to make your way all the way from the Epcot handicap parking, through Future World, and then to the World Showcase. It's probably not any shorter, time wise, but much easier on the batteries! And on sore feet! Just make sure when the last boat is BACK to the studios!
