How do you get rid of a lie bump?

We call them lie bumps here too :teeth:

OUCH, you pull them off?

i never knew what those were called but I have gotten them before and I have usually just taken a tweezers to them as well...Orbase also helps.

And NO I haven't lied....LOL! I've had the flu and of course my stomach has been upset and now I have the more horrible "lie bump" on my tongue, IT HURTS, HURTS, HURTS!!!!!!!

Is there any home remedy that anyone knows of to get rid of this thing? I'm supposed to go on a business trip with DH tomorrow and I can't even talk right with this thing.

When I get these, I either drink milk or a liquid antacid. You can also put milk or antacid on a q-tip and place it on the "lie bumps" a few times a day. I know that sounds craz, but it always works for me. My mom has always said that it has something to do with too much acid in your stomach... maybe that's why people notice an increase in them when they have too much citrus?

Anyway, hope this helps. And BTW, we have always called them lie bumps too!

I must never have told a lie, because I have no idea what you're talking about!

Oh, shoot. I have lied on occasion, if I admit it now will I avoid getting one?

My family has always called them "lie bumps" also! I thought this was a universal thing ~ guess not.

I, too, have taken drastic measures to get rid of them. One time I had one that hurt so bad that I took a pair of scissors to it. OUCH! but it went away.

LOL!! I love the term lie bump!! I just call them defective taste buds!! I have never tried puliing them.....ewwwww. :crazy2:

Wow. I get these things everyone once in a while, and I even asked my Doctor and he said "looks like an inflamed taste bud" and told me to wait it out. So Im like screw that. I Googled the topic and came to this board. Im so relieved that Im not the only person that gets these stupid things. The doctor made it sound like hes never seen anything like it before which freaked me out. I tried all kinds of oral stuff to make it go away and nothing works! Im too scared to pluck it with a tweezer though. Ive had it about 2 days and its starting to shrink and fade away now. :cool1:

Okay, don't freak out (I'm mentally ok!) but back in my high school days I used to take disinfected nail clippers and snip them off. I can't stand those things on my tongue! I tend to irritate them by flicking them on my teeth. Don't get them very often anymore.

I cannot believe you guys that pull them off that has to hurt like ****. Although some people would think I am crazy because I cut them off. Its really not that painful. I use a pair of cuticle scissors like the ones manacurists use. They are really sharp and you can kind of lift it before you cut to make sure you are not getting your tounge.

I had one of these about a month ago... They are inflamed taste buds and you basically have to wait for them to go away. I too did some searching on Google and found some references to a vitamin B deficiency.

I started taking my multi-vitamins again and gargling with mouthwash... It went away in a few days after that... :goodvibes

We call them lie bumps also. We usually get them after an illness or eating too much citrus. We have always rinsed our mouths with warm salt water several times a day and they clear up pretty quickly.

Sounds gross, but I use a nail clipper, get a good grip on it, then snip it right off! Then I just gargle with some Scope or Listerine to clean out my mouth.

I hate those things (my grandmother called them lie bumps, too!), and they heal a lot faster and are less painful when you just rip 'em out. :thumbsup2

We also call them lie bumps. I notice getting them when I"ve eaten a lot of a specific food - usually citrus or sugar. Maybe I "overload" the taste bud? :lmao:

Anyway, if it's not too bad, I just wait it out, but I am often in the "yank it out" camp. I pop them like zits. Yeah, it hurts, but then it's GONE. I never thought of using scissors or fingernail clippers. :scratchin: I may try that next time. Pulling them out is kinda rough. I'll have to remember to call it a tongue zit next time.

I always thought it was a canker sore....

I would have called it a canker sore too. I have never heard of a lie bump so I didn't know there was a difference.

Lie Bump? :lmao: I don't think I've ever had one. Tweezers and nail clippers to remove it? OMG :faint: :faint: :faint:

It can't be a canker sore, because they usually have a little crater in the center.

My family has always called this 'lie bumps' too-- I thought it was a southern thing because DH thinks I'm wierd.

Anyway, when we used to get them when we were yound my mother would tell use we need to have a good BM. :confused3 Still don't understand what that has to do with anything.

A lie bump is not a canker sore (I get those too sometimes). A lie bump is on the tongue and it a tiny white bump that has an irritating pain.

I've never heard of the term lie bump!

Anyway, if it's like the tongue sores I've had....OUCH! I know how much it hurts. I went to the dentist for mine and he said that it could be the tail end of a virus and to wait. Sadly, he said it could last up to 2 weeks, and he was right.

I heard that taking vitamins can help. Try to avoid citrus and other acidic food while your tongue is healing.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide. If there aren't instructions on the bottle for an oral rinse maybe call the pharmacy and ask them. I can't remember if you use it full strength or dilute it.

I had mono when I was a teenager and my whole mouth was full of ulcers. It hurt to put water in my mouth. Peroxide cleared them right up.
