How do you get from one resort to another?

I have never visited other resorts while vacationing at Disney. Our next trip is to our very first to our home resort (AKV) and we are going to have a few days of downtime. I thought perhaps we would visit another resort.

Is there a way to get to other resorts without having to take a bus to one of the parks and then taking another bus to the resort?

Just curious...

The two methods we use are rental car or cab.
Cabs do cost, but we take them to the resorts for dinner, and that way nobody has to drink then drive.

You could take a cab, that's about it other than renting a car. From AKV, I would take an AK bus to transfer.

We transfer from a park or DTD. It is a bit of a pain, but since we usually choose not to rent a car, we are pretty used to the drill.

We usually take a taxi...especially for ADRs. It minimizes the transportation time significantly.

That's what I figured. We're not looking to spend any extra money, so we will probably do the bus transfer.

Thanks for the info!

With limited exceptions, going from resort to resort via Disney transportation involves getting to a theme park or DTD, then transferring to a bus or other form of transportation to get to your destination.

From AKV (Kidani) you obviously can walk to AKL (Jambo), otherwise all trips to other resorts will start with a bus ride. To get to the Poly, GF, CR or WL/FW, take a bus to the MK, then you can walk or monorail to the CR, monorail or boat to the GF and Poly, or boat to WL/FW.

To get to BW, S/D and YC/BC, take a bus to DHS and then you can walk or take the boat from there.

For all other resorts, take a bus to AK (as long as it is open) and then transfer to another bus there. If AK isn't open, take a bus to DHS or Epcot and transfer there.

If all of the parks are closed, your only option is to use DTD as a transfer point. Unless you are going to DTD for some other reason, however, transferring at a park almost always is preferable if they are open.

Days without going into parks. Some favourite ways to spend non-park days:

Take bus to Magic Kingdom, then visit all the hotels on the MK monorail loop.

Walk from Grand Floridian to wedding pavillion to Polynesian to TTC

Take boat from Magic Kingdom to Grand Floridian or Polynesian.

Take boat to Wilderness Campground then walk to Wilderness Lodge.

Take bus to Disney Studios, then walk (or boat) to Swan, Dolphin, Beach, Yacht and Boardwalk.

Take bus to DTD then walk or bus to Sarasota

Take bus to DTD then boat to Sarasota, Port Orleans or Old Key West.

Walk Old Key West to Downtown along the canal.
